what type do you use and how high do you hang them
|
RE: what kind of stand
Summit Viper (or that type) climber.
23' on a normal hunt. I'm going 12' or so for the early season with the longbow.;) |
RE: what kind of stand
Brutus climber the Archer Elite.. Only made them one year or so i think.. Its a pain in the butt to put the latch on the belt, but i normally hunt 17 feet but this year im going up 24 feet.

RE: what kind of stand
Jeff, I've been looking at the Summit Viper and thinking about getting one for my climber. At 259 it looks like a good deal? How is it to carry around, climb up the tree, and comfort wise?
Thanks, Ron |
RE: what kind of stand
I have four of them, sumit makes great stands, comfortable enough to hunt all day. And they are very safe.
|
RE: what kind of stand
hunters view and gorilla average about 25-30'
|
RE: what kind of stand
My longest walk in is .7mi.
It's never been an issue at +/- 20#'s. I can set it up quietly....and I can get to 23' in about 8-10 "cycles" on the way up. Once you've done it as many times as I have (I hunt almost exclusively from the climber....and have ascended/descended in it about 120 times over the last 3 seasons) you work out a pretty good "system". I'd highly recommend this stand to anyone. |
RE: what kind of stand
Mine are all home made portable metal Hang ons. Depends on the tree or set up but they can all vary from 8' to 20' up.
|
RE: what kind of stand
Iput out 20' ladder stands acouple monthes before season near bedding areas bc their quit and easy to access then use aclimber to hunt what my trail cams find.
|
RE: what kind of stand
Several different kinds of stands, but usually 15-20 feet up.
|
RE: what kind of stand
Thanks Jeff, I'm pretty much sold on getting the Viper then. 18 feet should be a couple of less cycles also, do you ever fall a sleep in it?
|
RE: what kind of stand
For a hang on, I use the gametamers. They are the most comfortable that i have ever tried in the last 10 years, but they are not light and where I hunt a climber doesn't work too well, not too many straight trees. www.gametamers.com I have them set at different heights, depends on the terrain 16-30' up in the tree.

RE: what kind of stand
2 rivers edge bigfoots 15'-16' upand a 15' big game ladder stand. Looking at getting a 20' ladder stand.
|
RE: what kind of stand
summit viper - although for the vertically challenged to go 18' taakes about 18 cycles with a 29" inseam.
They don't call me short croch for nothin |

RE: what kind of stand
we use hang ons, ladder stands, and two man ladder stands. we also on one farm have quite a few permanent stands built
|
RE: what kind of stand
I use climbers, ladder stands, and hang ons. All my ladder stands and hang ons are right about 18-20ft. I tend to go higher in my climber, I normally hunt around the 25ft mark, but have been known to go as high as 40ft when needed.

RE: what kind of stand
I use a Summit Viper as well. I relly like it for many reasons. One key reason is the weight of it... at 20 lbs. you can't go wrong especially on those long walks. And I usually hang it about 15'-20'.

RE: what kind of stand
Last year I caught Dick's sporting goods during a clearance and bought 4 comfort zone ladders at 15' and one comfort zone hang on. I have a home made ladder I use with 2 15' pieces to put the hanger at about 30'.
Just got a gametamer climber but havent put it to use yet. ![]() |
RE: what kind of stand
I got the Sumit Viper too. its great, except im terrified of the climbers.. ahah im a big chicken. I like the ladder stands if its possible over the climber any time! but as far as climbers i dont even think they are more than 15#, they are so EZ to put on backstrap (backpack style) its great and the main reason i bought it. its really good, my two buddies got some climbers but liked mine better as well.

RE: what kind of stand
For hangons I use a Loc-on Lem, Gorilla Wolverine, Amacker, High Point(API), and my run and gun hangon.....Lone Wolf Assault. I hang them as high as necessary according to what is called for at my chosen spot. I've killed deer from a hangon as low as 7' to around 25'. There is no set in stone height.....it just all depends.

RE: what kind of stand
I use a tree lounge. Heavy to carry and not so easy to set up at times. However, the comfort of the stand, IMO, is unmatched. If im in an uncomfortable position for too long, my body starts screaming atme to move. I dont have that problem with this stand.

RE: what kind of stand
Summit Viper @ 20' > 25'
|
RE: what kind of stand
Summit Goliath at 20-25' usually. Also, the property I hunt has a ton of ladders in place, so we hunt those too, most are around 17'
|
RE: what kind of stand
Summit Viper @18'
|
RE: what kind of stand
12' Family Traditon ladder stand.
Used to be locally made here not sure if they still are. |
RE: what kind of stand
ORIGINAL: FLboy77 12' Family Traditon ladder stand. Ive had deer walk right under me and never known I was there. Used to be locally made here not sure if they still are. |
RE: what kind of stand
i use a summit climber to about 23 feet
|
RE: what kind of stand
20' to the base or to the seat? I know many stands are sold saying theyre 17 feet....or 20feet but really thats 2' higher than they are.......since thats to the seat height, not the platform, I go by platform height, I'm betting that 95% of stands are at 15feet, you 20' plus guys are crazy, personally I like more than 15, but 20 is plenty high, I think 16-20' to theplatform is perfect. unless youre in a steep draw and 20' up is a level shot to a deer trail.
|
RE: what kind of stand
I build my own ladder stands, based on the tree I want to put it in. I have stands ranging from10' - 18' I have been successful with gun & bow, at all hights.
