RE: Should I??? (Turkey Hunting)
Heck, to be honest.... if it's your first year, you can take a camera and have a ball. If you got a need to kill something then take a shotgun for the first few birds. Learn the game and then do the bow. But honestly, killing turkeys is not the fun. I have more fun just working a bird and calling for someone else. It's been that way for 30 years. I could care less if I ever kill another turkey. I don't like the meat that much. A butterball is a lot better on the table.

RE: Should I??? (Turkey Hunting)
Man, I killed my first bird just a few miles from the SD border in Wyoming. It was up around Sundance. I shot him with a shotgun... Is there any reason that you can't take both? Make sure that you're prepared with your bow and see if the birds are responding to calls, if there are a lot of birds in your area... etc.
Like others have said... Don't let anyone tell you what to do do, it's your hunt. |
RE: Should I??? (Turkey Hunting)
When I'm paying nonresident prices,it'sshotgun time. . . but if it's a 2 bird limit, it'd be the bowfor #2

RE: Should I??? (Turkey Hunting)
Take both!! You can always switch to the Shotgun if things are not working out with the bow.
I'm heading to NE. very soon to hunt the Archery Turkeyseason so I don't have to make that choice. Dan |
RE: Should I??? (Turkey Hunting)
Yeah...I agree, I would take both if there were a question...

RE: Should I??? (Turkey Hunting)
buck slayer, Id stick with the shotgun. It can be done, but hunting in the hills is not conducive to bowhunting. The birds are very mobile and there is not much cover.

RE: Should I??? (Turkey Hunting)
What are you wanting to take from your hunt (besides a turkey)? How important is it that you kill something?
LOTS of people make this decision every year RE: gun/bow for deer. To ME it's not important enough that I take a deer.......it's important that I do it the way I want to. It's an internal question you can only answer. |
