Ladder Stands
Does anyone have a preferred ladder stand? I'm in the market for a new one and would like to hear/see everyone's opinions/suggestions. I'm probably lookin for a two seater seein as we video alot of our hunts. Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

RE: Ladder Stands
They're heavy. I hope you don't have to tote it far. I'm more insecure in a ladder than I am in a climber. Maybe it's just me, but I just hate them.

RE: Ladder Stands
i bought 2 rivers edge's and thought theyd be the ultimate, but theyre ok/nice, I think if i bought more id make sure to get the XL version,
What I want in a ladder stand......is a flip hup seat.......and a large standing platform.....those are must haves in my book. I've bought the $99 sale ladder stand, and sure if youre only hunting a morning or evening for a few hrs or less thats fine, but the more time you spend in one the more comforts youll want. Also I've now learned that you pretty much get what you pay for, as nice as a picture may look, cheaper stands are built more cheaply. Some are priced more fairly than others, but really I think you need to spend $150-200 on a quality ladder stand, and itll actually save you money and time in the long run. I've modified my cheaper stands.....to now have a larger platform and flip up seat. Which not everyone would be able to do/access to. Also time and money isn't something you want to waist modifying a stand. I also like hand rails.....makes sitting more comfortable as well as another thing you can hange a peice of gear on etc....I also like a shooting rail, that can flip down etc....outta the way, though I leave it in place usually. So ya, id def get a big base/platform ie....15"x28" and a flip up seat, then when you stand up to shoot your bow the tree can help conceal you, otherwise youre standing away from teh tree and standing out like a sore thumb. |
RE: Ladder Stands
big game makes decent 2 man

RE: Ladder Stands
I find most 2 man stands are way lower to the ground.......you may be better off getting a 1 man quality ladder stand and a nice bolt on.....otherwise ive seen many nice/decent 2 mans for pretty cheap. not sure there is as much of a difference in 2 man stands as there is with 1 man stands.

RE: Ladder Stands
I think a better bet may be a couple climbers. I watched Len and his boy from the time he was 11 carry in their climbers and shimmy up the same tree. In the beginning they went up the same tree, one behind the other. They'd sit one above the other on opposite sides and watch their zone. After a couple years they did it 30 or 40 yards apart and stayed in touch with radios. Now that Len's boy is 15 or 16 they discuss where they're going and head out alone. His boy has years of experience with his safety vest and treestand and is pretty much self sufficient in the woods, and safe.
