RE: Trimming the fat?
One way I have been looking at it..... I weigh 173 pounds. My climber is 21 pounds, my bow set up around 7 pounds, fanny pack 4 pounds, back pack 5 pounds, boots 3 pounds, all my apparel 5 pounds.... That equals out to 45 pounds.... 26% of my body weight..... Seems excessive for the length of my walks and the terrain I like to hunt when away from home.

Dude, I hear ya. Having all that stuff along really does nothing but make hunting a PITA. Especially packing it all up and maintaining it. All I carry now is a small fanny pack w/a couple of essentials in it, and that's pretty much it.
I don't take much to the woods at all anymore, for those very reasons. Heavy, sweat....and besides, I pack my climber almost 100% of the time, and adding a heavy back pack to that is ridiculous. Which reminds me, I still have a Badlands 2200 for sale....hm, anyway....

RE: Trimming the fat?
WHich is why I love my longbow but still an avid compound hunter.....
I try to carry my clothes on my back until I hit the stand...I tuck a grunt call tight around my neck and stick my Nikon range finder in my front pocket...after that its just my release and me...
My small pack hangs on the tree with a knife, maglight, deer tag, rubber gloves & my cell phone turned off...
On other days I have an ONTER-RAZHHH.... of video camera equipment with wireless mics, etc....its total cahossssssssss. I sweat like a pig on these days....

When in doubt throw it out, especially if you are covering a lot of ground. There was a study done some time ago about the effect of each additional pound carried while hiking, the effect that it had on fatigue.Keep it lean and mean.

If it dont fit in the HSS vest it stays in the truck [8D]Heck i dont even carry my knife in any more (i Know, i Know, i dont need it anyway [8D]) I go back to the truck if i need it.
