I'd definitely go for a decent buck every year over waiting for a monster. A "trophy rack" just isn't what I'm in it for. No disrespect at all intended towards those of you who go that route.

I hold out for a Big one now. Shot lots of 4,6, and one nice 10 point. I do shoot my share of sweet meat doe's . I'll say it feels good to let the small ones walk. Most of them small bucks are so dumb they make me laughout of mytreestand

Again, it depends on the definition of a "monster". I will gladly pass up 140"s and 150"s for the opportunity at a 200". 200" deer are a rare breed. But, I am not going to pass up an opportunity on a 150" buck unless I have pictures of have sighted a deer that pushes or exceeds the 200" mark. In general, I have a lot more respect for the guy who has dozens of trophy class deer under his belt, than the guy who has one 200" buck on the wall.

I would prefer to wait myself, you can always release arrows on does. I did not kill a buck in the 05 or 06 seasons, 07 I got to put one in the back of the truck. 05 and 06 maybe not have produced a monster buck for me, but plenty of does and good times were still had.

I'd be happy with a P&Y 3 of every 4 years.
Lots to consider here. While I'm not going to shoot young bucksjust to say that I got a buck, I would not be content hunting bucks of such a caliber that the success was that far between.

It is exciting shooting a big deer. I am fortunate enough to hunt in an area that is trying to reduce the deer population so I can shoot a fawn or a doe and not have to wait years between deer. (I have not filled my antler tag for three years) I do pass on small bucks but I don't study them to the point of being able to tell how big a buck is. If it looks big to me, then it will go down if my shooting is good.
I have shot two big bucks, a 136 & 146, and they were four years apart. The 2008 season shoul be another good one if the trend continues.
Most every one in our group has now shot at least a nice buck. I'm going to put pressure on the rest of the party to shoot more does and let smallish bucks walk. We all will get a shot at larger bucks if we all do this. It is possible to have an area where you could shoot a big deer every year if only the little ones were allowed to grow.
