A Worthy Opponent.... and a Long Lost Shed..
 

In lieu of all the recent chest bumpin' and thumpin' lately.. on who is the greatest hunter in the world of HNI...

I decided to bring it back down to earth.. get back to the basics.. and talk whitetail.

Last evening (Thurs. Mar. 21st) my wife was able to find her first antler;). A long lost treasure of the most documented buck I have ever been able to encounter and Justin (and pa) hunted for several years together.

The antler goes back some 4 or 5 years.. and belongs to a past field journal of mine on a buck I so cleverly called Mr. Buck. Although he was never a giant.. he lived a charmed life.. and with 3 trailcam pics. (all from JZ) several encounters by Justin and his dad.. 1 by me in 2003.. and about 4 or 5 sheds off him.. (all in about 5 years) he's been indeed a buck who just wouldn't be taken. The S.O.B.[:@]

Great story! I’ve had a couple of bucks that I really targeted and pursued over the years, so I know the feeling…. Some of those old guys are just soooo smart! Of course a couple of mess ups by me over the years sure helped their cause :D

We may never know JZ.. But if he is alive (and i doubt this) he would be pushing 7 or even 8 yrs. of age by now. Would be nice to know for sure.

Shouldv'e named him simply.. Mr. S.O.B.

Mike you should throw all the sheds together and shoot a picture of the years you found.. cool stuff, be neat if he's still alive...

The last photo we got of this buck was in the fall of 2006 and he hasn't been seen since. Granted I didn't have my cameras out on this piece of ground this fall so he could still be around but I doubt it. He would be at least 7 and there's not too many bucks that live to that age around here. Anything is possible though....

I'd love to Troy. But sadly.. I have given my only other Mr. Buck shed to Justins dad.. as he was actually hunting it and cared more of it than I did. In fact, he will probably recieve this one too.
