It looks to me with a slightly quartering shot that the arrow hit the offside shoulder and probably didnt have much of an exit. I think it is a really good shot but the blood trail might not of been as good as it could have been if this was the case. I would definitely take that placement, but prefer it to be a little more forward.

Nope. It was back of the off-side leg (slightly). That green dot is on the deer's shoulder if he's standing and his leg is back in line with the off-side leg. Exit (if it did exit) would be through the deer's shoulder (if the entrance was on that green dot).

You said slightly quartering. I didnt know you meant quaterting by like an inch. If it exited behind the shoulder it had to have been just about broadside then right? I mean just ever so slightly quartering?

Yes, TeeJay....this is the entrance.

And Greg....your sketch doesn't show the ENTIRE makeup of a deer's shoulder......only the skeletal structure.There's more to the shoulder than that.....and your sketch is misleading to new hunters. There's a lot of cartilage in the plate that surrounds the shoulder socket that can be avoided on an optimal shot. But you know that.
