And to think, even with that kind of info and the deer's little "Pear sized" brain, some of us still get skunked on a "daily" basis. Who woulda thunk it?

No, it's not rocket science, but the suprises that each season holds for each of us still amazes me. That's what keeps me going.:D

Let me try again. In the hunting world there's a lot of talk about the deer herd being so out of wack yet you seem to be doing well. How can that be? I believe it's beacuse you've "paid your dues". I'm using you to debunk the one's complaining. Others can do the same unless your more than a mere mortal.:D

OK, I get it now.

Let me tell you something....... For me it's all about time. Back when I was younger and used to shoot the first buck I saw, I was done hunting. I never saw any big bucks, I thought they were all in special places that I didn't have access to. Well one day I was out and I saw one. I couldn't believe it. I started hunting more and more (time) and I sawe more of them. Pretty soon I was always reading about deer and spending a lot more time in the field trying to study them. Eventually Istarted taking the whole month of November off. In October I can still hunt after work. Over the years I've fine tuned things and know what to look for so that's helped. But basically, deer and deer hunting is a year round thing for me. I have found that the more time I put into it the more success I have. A no brainer. There are a lot of people the can't invest this kind of time, but every little bit helps. There are also people that want big bucks to fall into their lap. Good luck with that!

I was in the same boat Greg with a lot of work still do.
Like your sig states- I learn something new about
the game I hunt every season.
That's what makes it so fun.

I Get to spend more time in the woods than most people I know. My boss is so cool when hunting season comes around. I get to leave at two o'clock everyday from september 15th till whenever in the season. I work my but off so it's possible!!!In the lastfour years I have learnedso much from spending the time in the woods. My dad tought me how to look for the right things and notice what I need too. The other half of what I know is from time spent in thedeer woods.No one can teach you what it's like to see and heara buck tending a doe ,or hear the vocalizations that a doe uses tokeep her fawns in check. My dad once told me about how deer will click and I thought he was crazy, till last season I seen and heard it for myself. Thingslike that are why I am soengrossed in bowhunting. It's just that good man.

Good post RuttNutt! I guy don't learn anything sitting on his but, he learns from his own experiences and that of his peers if he's fortunate enough. I was lucky enough to be able to learn allot from my dad, he is one excellent mature buck hunter, his walls are covered with P@Y bucks. I wish I had half of his knowledge. Guy's like my dad, GregH, Shed, Peakrut, Duke and some others on HNI seem to have that big buck instinct. Its something that is earned with time and patience. I hope to some day have that big buck instinct. Hats off to you guys on HNI that shoot these big guys here and there. Respect given!!!!

I have a long way to go bro if I think anything else its over.;)
I also am very fortunate to have a great area of the country to hunt. Finding places to hunt are getting slimmer but I am doing ok for now.
*If I get this one that is out at my parents new place I think I will wet myself* lol

Steve I also admire you man you get to hunt more then just whitetails and I look forward to the day I draw my bear permit here in Wisconsin.
