RE: Does your arrow spin in flight?

Not saying your wrong, and you probably know more about this than i do, but I just shot my Blazers with only a slight helical 10 times. I put a blue dot on the cock vane down blazer and 10 out of 10 times the blue dot fletching was facing down just as it was knocked on the arrow. Note that this was at about 8 yrds in my apartment so i dont know if distance has anything to do with it or not.
Arrow speed, rate of spin and distance all affect how many revolutions your arrow will make on it's way to the target. Not to mention that the fletching won't even induce spin until the arrow is some distance from the bow. The faster the bow shoots, the further the arrowtravels before the fletching catches the wind and even begins to spin and stabilize it.

We'll play with Dubbya's numbers 300 fps, 1100 rpm. Your target is at 8 yards or 24 feet. At 300 fps, the arrow will strike the target in .08 second. 1100 rpm is 18.3 rounds per second. 18.3 X .08 = 1.46

So, the very most your arrow could spin in 24 ft is 1 1/2 revolutions, and it's not likely to startspinning at all in that short of a distance.

Thanks Arthur! I figured it would probably take some time to start spinning I just didnt know how long, and at what distance it would start.

Is this like a trick question or do people really question wheather thier arrows spin?
We who shoot traditional don't qestion it, bigcountry, because our arrows fly slow enough we can see them do it. But most of these guys with their rocket launcher compounds don't have a clue. I bet a lot of 'em have never seen an arrow fly from their bow because they close their eyes at release and the arrow is sticking in the target by the time they open them again. :D

Thanks Arthur...now I don't have to type all that! :)

Go look at the link I gave you. It's not MY information.

You can take it up with them.
GMMAT...easy there, no reason to get short with me. When I said your information, I meant the information you provided for this thread. In terms of discussing the what is said on that website, you entail more 'possession' of it than others who are reading this thread, therefore I made a simple statement of 'yours'. I had no intention of claiming you were the one who came up with that theory.

RE: Does your arrow spin in flight?

Mine must spin, I shoot with the cock-vane up and when I retrieve it from the target the cock-vaneain't up, don't know how many times it spins, but it does.
I fletch straight with offset (2" blazers), and have also done right helical, they spin too.

98% vote yes, why do we have all these polls? Jeff you have spent on your sights than most have on their setups. You know arrows spin. You have a Traditional set up, a hunting set up and a 3-d set up. Alll of which are less than 1 year old. You know arows spin. Why all the threads?

hardcorehunter 03-11-2008 08:24 PM

RE: Does your arrow spin in flight?

Of course they spin.

I voted i don't know i have really never checked i suppose they probably do. I set my blazers to the most agressive helical i get and still contact the arrow on both ends of the fletch.

"Water is wet, the sky is blue, women have secrets, arrows spin during flight, and old Satan Claus...yeah he's out there."

I'm going to start a poll, let me think of one.....Do deer s*#t in the woods? And if they do does it rotate on the way down (it's a 2 part poll?

Yeah, that sounds like a good one!;)

I use quickspins too, and they claim they spin up to 300 times faster. Don'tknow if that 100% true or not but I do know they spin faster than normal vanes. I also know they slow the arrow down and they are a bit more noisy compared to other vanes. But for me the positives outweigh the negatives. In Idaho we can't use a expanding BH and I also perfer a big heavy broad head for elk. The quick spins are awesome for big fixed blade Bheads so I use them.

Yes mine spin, RH
Years ago i used to shoot 4" straight vanes with no spin, it was the in thing in my area for some reason.

Yes,
I fletch Righ Helical as aggressive as I can get the jig to go.

Teejay....I asked the question.....because I thought I knew the answer, too.......until I read the article I posted the link to.

Everybody comes on here.....and says the article is junk. I still don't know who to believe.
Yes....I shoot a longbow...and I know the arrows "I" fletch spin (hard right helical). The article said straight fletch DOESN'T......and obviously I guess we have people here who know more than the author.

Also....it's the first time I've ever posted anything about arrow spin or fletchings....

And this is real classy, Don....

RE: Does your arrow spin in flight?

Heck yea they do .... with a helical offset like this these arrows spin like a drill ... :D

RE: Does your arrow spin in flight?

If you have a good video camera you can see it very clearly. It is pretty cool to see the rate of spin for yourself. I am not sure about the straight fletch butI have seen the helical spin in my videos. I have some straight fletch feathered ACCs, next time I shoot I will check to see if they spin.
