82nd Cracked Limbs... (pics)

Well... I discovered this today, a crack in in my lower limb on my 82nd. It will be taken care of shortly, still a bummer. No real idea what caused it, but this is my second bow with cracked limbs in the last 5 months:(Maybe my luck is just that good. Anyone else seen this on any '08 bowtech?

I have to wonder WHY bowtech hasn't gone to a LAMINATED limb????? With as many Limb problems as I've heard about them over the years, it would seem to make sense to change to laminated limbs, even IF it increases the cost a little. JMO though. It's part of what would scare me about buying a used Bowtech is the fear that I'd crack a limb.

Man that really sucks sorry to hear that I hope you can find out why they crackedl, at least you can get them fixed.

Looks more of a "ding" or slight delamination than a crack though. Either way tough break. As I said on the phone, if you have any problems let me know.

2 limbs in 5 months sucks. Just out of curiosity have these 2 bows been pressed by you or a bow shop?

For clarification purposes, the first bow was my Hoyt Vectix, they were not both Bowtech bows.

It was actually both limbs on the hoyt, the only time the bow was ever pressed was when i installed the rest and when I installed the new strings. Both times my limb pocket were loosened and properly pressed (I was present at the press).

The same goes for the bowtech.

Scott, I agree... to me a crack is horizontal or something that goes perpendicular to the material of the limb. To me it looks as if a piece of the top layer of the limb has come loose. The chip actually came from my pro-pod, it caught on the loose piece when I put it on (the mule deer target 11 :D). I definitely don't foresee any problems with Bowtech customer service.

I'm sorry to see this bud...it happens and maybe a random deal that you experienced this twice...

I love my Hoyts. My buddy saw this on his Bowtech and his Matthews....Not to say a Hoyt can't crack just never experienced this yet.

Man, I'm pretty well convinced that stuff like this happens to every bow manufacturer... nothing is ever perfect. A lot of people mention how much this happens to bows from the "Big 3" meaning Hoyt, Mathews, and Bowtech. But we can't forget that there are more of these bows out there than any other brands. They may have the same number of limb issues but with 5x the number of bows sold...

Even after both of these bows, I still don't have any negative things to say about either manufacturer... both top notch in my mind.

Nope, but if its anything like 03, 04, 05, 06 and 07 Bowtechs... you probably ain't the first and likely won't be the last. They will take good care of you though. Sucks to happen on such a new bow. Good luck.

I'm definitely a Hoyt guy buddy, I've had 6 I think and I assure you that I'll never be without a Hoyt in the case regardless of how many other bows I own. Now that I think about it... I've never killed anything with any compound except for a Hoyt.

PS, I like cold "cokes" too.

I've been getting a lot of legal advice lately.Let me tell you this, when you date an attorney... you get a LOT of advice (granted a lot of it is useful). And you don't win very many arguments... at all. :D

Actually that's a false statement: A.) Because you still have the ROSS B.) You don't currently have either of the "faster" bows. ;)

Am I seeing that right? It looks like youhit something off the belly of the limb right in the middle of that splinter.
That white spot that's a 1/2 circle in the center............does it have any texture or feel like an indent?

Were you hanging it by that spot or using a pro-pod on that part of the limb?
Good news is thats not a "Crack", it's a break in the outer finish and possibly the outermost layer of glass underneath.

I've seen splinters before on bows that look exactly like that onebut usually they are on the outside edge of the limb from some sort of impact. When you break the integrity of that outer layer of finish it can peel like that at the width of the spot that was impacted. In any event they have that tell tale mark or dent right in the center of the part that is lifting.
