RE: for the lock on hunters?
When I hunt the public land here in Wisconsin I put my stand up every morning and take it down every evening! I use the Lone Wolf Alpha with the LW climbing sticks! This stand is pretty easy to set up and take down, even in the dark! I can have it up and ready to hunt in about 10 - 15 minutes, I can have it down in about 2 - 3 minutes! I've got my system down pat, most of the time I go up the tree once set the sticks/stand as I climb, then climb down attach bow and pack, get my camo on and climb back up and be ready to hunt! Its second nature! I find the LW Alpha and Sticks far easier than a Climber and I can go in more places than I climber will go, its lighter as well!

RE: for the lock on hunters?
I have been hunting from the ground a lot more these days because I hate dragging stands around. Sweaty and very very noisy. I use netting that I put in my backpack. This year I will try a ground blind for the first time. I'm hoping for better weather control and scent control.

RE: for the lock on hunters?
It takes me 20 minutes to set up my climber, put out scent, make it 20' up the tree and to get every thing in place ready to shoot Then 15 minutes to take it all down and gether up my scent containers to start home....I do all this in the dark.

RE: for the lock on hunters?
I know there are guys that are on here that swear by it, but I just can't see it without being overly sweaty. The guys that do it all use the Lone Wolf stands and sticks and they are very quiet, I will say that. But even the hang on with sticks weigh more than my climber. I honestly can't say I could see as an option for myself, but for the guys that have a system down, more power to you.

Haven't done it this way for awhile, but backpack and stand on back, ladder on one shoulder and bow in the other hand. Put two lengths of ladder together and raise up high enough to place bottom section in and begin attaching to tree. Put stand on back again (both hands free to climb and move tether) and climb up with rope attached to pull bow up when ready.
15 min to set up that way. Later, I started hiding the ladder under leaves and brush so I didn't have to carry it when going back to the same places a few days apart. |
RE: for the lock on hunters?
I've done it a couple times. And I have moved stands to sit in in that evening several times (as many have I'm sure). Though less since I got a real job and could afford a couple more stands. The times I have done it in the morning, I had already sat in that tree before. I knew about where the stand goes, and had holes in the tree to screw in the steps. Then haul the stand up, hang it and sit. If it is in a tree I have been in, I know how to set the stand, and have lanes cut, and the holes are in for the steps, so the dark isn't really much of a handicap. My favorite kind of stand for quiet setting was some homebuilt ones my dad made years ago. A screw in step has a ring welded onto it, and a hook on the stand slides into it. Couldn't be easier to set. Then dad had one pull out, and they all got a second hook welded on, and uses 2 screw in rings.
And the stands with the backpack straps are much easier to make quiet for hauling. I put a foam pad I sit on between the upright and platform, right at the seat joint and cinch it down with a ratchet strap. I have even stuck my backpack in between and cinched that in when I need to carry the backpack. I prefer the kind of stand with a chain over a strap, but one really has to be careful if he wants to carry it and set it quietly. |
