Turkey Hunting From a Treestand??

Just curious if anyone has done it??

I am thinking about trying it and i am going to tape it but im not sure if the footage of turkey hunting would be as cool from a treestand....

Thanks!

Only in the fall and by happen stance.

In the spring, I'd never attempt it, they'd pick you out faster in a tree than on the ground, plus being stuck to one spot.

I see Turkey's alot in the fall while deer hutning out of my stands, but during the spring hunt it's better to be more flexible on the ground @ least that's my thoughts.

Really??

Theyd pick you out faster in a tree?

Ok so footage wise.....do you think footage from the ground would be better?

I can't count the times I've had 'em under me while I was in a stand. I just don't see this (above). If it were true.....so many guys wouldn't be shooting them from their stands while deer hunting. I see guys on here every year who do that for me to think it's HARDER than being on the ground.

If you wanna say it's harder than being in a BLIND.....I'd be more apt to believe that.

I'm strictly talking spring birds, not fall birds and I guess I can be more specific and say PA birds, they are a different critter...LOL

Even Fall, I've been busted by PA turkeys in the treestand 10 fold to when I've been on the ground. I've only successfully drawn my bow once in probably a dozen attempts on birds when in a treestand. Most of the time, they bust ya before you even get your bow in hand.

Also, in the spring we're most likely calling, they are looking for that source and coming in looking.

Correct me if I'm wrong Rob, but spring turkey hunting from a treestand is not permitted in PA.

Tree Stands/ Shooting Lanes
Turkey hunters may use tree stands so long as the tree stand doesn't have skirting behind which the hunter can hide. It is unlawful while hunting or preparing to hunt to (1) damage any tree on public or private property by constructing a tree stand, or using a portable tree stand or device to climb a tree; (2) damage or cut down tree branches, saplings or forest understory to clear shooting lanes; (3) use or occupy a tree stand which, when constructed, damaged a tree. This does not apply to landowners constructing stands on their own property; or persons who have received written permission from the landowner to build or use a tree stand.

I just never could get myself to buy a tag during Deer bow season, i have had many, many, many opportunities at Toms while deer hunting, but as Rob said they can really pick you off quick in a tree. good luck to you and i hope to see some good footage ;)

I have killed many in the spring and fall from tree stands. I hate hunting from a blind so I am either on the ground in a brush pile or in the trees. You have to be able to pull your bow back super slowly. The hardest part is definantly getting a draw on them.

RE: Turkey Hunting From a Treestand??

I've never Spring hunted Turkeys from a treestand, but I've taken several with a bow in the fall. A couple times, even after I was caught drawing, I got off good shots at turkeys that didn't know where the danger was. I like it as a fall tactic, huntingfeeding flocks- but don't think Its a decent option for a spring hunt on a mature Tom.
