Made the best of a rainy day.
Well, I had plans with a buddy of mine to work on clearing out a food plot or two. With the rain it was not a pretty day, but he still came in from Western PA to help so we didn't let it get us down. Here is my buddy on my Suzuki Skid Steer.(Vinson)
![]() ![]() ![]() It wasn't bad in the early morning, but around noon it let loose and we were soaked to the bone. We managed to get on location cleared pretty good. After the usual run around to the Gander Mountain and Dick's Sporting Goods to kill time, the rain let upand we decided to get some shooting in. Here is my buddy Kies. ![]() All in all, not a bad Saturday. Even if we did get soaked. Tomorrow should be a good time. I haven't talked to Rob yet to see who is gonna be in attendance. Matt Hensler, did you get your string on? PA Hardwoods, tkycaller, twild, BP? Anyone in? |
RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
I talked to Rob, earlier and Matt was there, then. I'd bet it was taken care of.;)
Looks like you guys had fun. |
RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
Pretty cool day Ben, had ya chance you should have swung by to meet Matt. He said he wished he gotten our message so you could have picked up a quiver.
Matt's all set up and his bow is shooting fantastic, It's a Ross, we put on new Gibblet string and cable, new loop, got it all tweaked, "Super" tuned and shooting darts! The bow is a good shooter and Matt makes the most of it. We had a little dilemna though, after getting her (the bow) perfect, we had to take apart the Copper John Dead Nuts sight to get it low enough to sight it in. We were actually perplexed. Might be a slight high anchor point for when I drew it and anchored I would have to bring the peep up which in turn would bring the POI up lessening the need to lower the sight. We got'r done though. The rain let up just enough to go outside and shoot a few. 20, perfect, 30 we tweaked and for the first time ever he shot at a 40 yard 3D target and stuck two in the 12 ring. Yeah, he's on...LOL I had a great time working with Matt on his bow. I don't think he'll be joining us to shoot tomorrow but it will be a great group including, twildsin, BPBowhunter, tkycaller, Nate, perhaps his wife and myself. Matt (M.Hensler/PA) will be joining us eventually when time allows. |
RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
Cool, it does sound like a great group. Glad to hear ya go Matt all set up. I am sure I will get to meet someday soon. It would have been a wash on the quiver anyhow...He only has a LH black left.

RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
Rob, um last night got a little out of hand when my bud Jeremy got into town and we were at the Lodge until advised to take it somewhere else. (we weren't that rowdy, they wanted to close) Kate's working late and I don't think I am gonna make it. Never know though.
Ohio? Snow?is it coming to PA? Crow, Actually that sweat shirt that I lent my buddy was a gift from my in laws when I moved to Hughesville. I am a Montoursville Warrior.[8D] I just live in Hughesville for a while bc the fellow Montoursvillians are aweful proud of their real estate and their prices show it. |
RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
Hughesville, PA is God's country.:D
I hope we don't get that snow Scott, it's rained all day and I know we might get some snow, it's better if you get it all and it fizzles out before we see it. [8D] |
RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
You guys are funny! Close to me, too! I am actually a Bulldog as I live in Berwick and have pretty much all my life. Close ties to SCA asI am employed there. LOTS of big deer roaming the hills of Catawissa! Picture Rocks is beautiful!

RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
Looks like a good time Ben. What are the plans for the plot? We're still up in the air about what to do with out plots this year, but I'm leaning toward keeping some of the plot turnips, maybe some clover and rye mixed in. Too bad for the quiver, I appreciate you considering doing that for me, I think I'm just going to order it online.
Yeah, Rob and I had a well...PROJECT with my bow today. He certainly knows his bows...simply first class guy all the way. My shots today were PURE luck, but hey I told Rob I would take it anyway I could get it. Overall, I had an awesome time...even spotted Rob's elusive blonde squirell, lol. More on that later tomorrow, I just got home...time for bed. |
RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
Matt, Last year We cleared out two decent sized areas and had two existing log landings. We put a mix of perrenials and annuals in a rate of about 75% perrenials to annuals 25%. The annuals were beans and winter peas. It was a learning year for me. This year I want to add two to three small plots and possible expand on the two that we already made. Here ismedragging a spiketoothedharrow on oneplots we cleared last year.
![]() I am going to frost seed a clover mix over the existing plots to help fill in. The one log landing needed to be tilled more so that will be started over again and possibly planted with oats. They will come up in the spring and with the deer grazing, they should be done before hunting season. Most people would think this to be a bad thing, but I look at it as the deer getting their eats when they need it and then I can plant annual for hunting attraction. And Rob, you got it, he is a stand up guy all the way around. Just watch him with he gets on the watered down grape cool aid.[8D] (he is a surprisingly good dancer) |
RE: Made the best of a rainy day.
