Ok big shooters. Lets see where we stand when we compare ourselves to the way the indians did it hundreds of years ago.

I have harvested "deer" with the following method

Our native Americans used to start fires to drive game to awaiting watchers or shoot off horse back on the run, I'd be called unethical to do the same thing.;)

I voted recurve with aluminum but I also shoot carbons.Shoot longbows with alum's and carbons too

compound with sight, stabilizer,peep site, fall away rest...etc
and its still a very hard thing to get a deer with. (mainly because you cant bait in my state)

Haven't harvested any deer yet so I can't really vote but when I will It will be with a compound with all the gadgets.:D

Not saying compound isn't hard everyone....just getting a feel to see who has done it bear bones...

Make a hole in the right spot with flint heads...animal bleeds....just like a 2 blade rage or a 3 blade muzzy.

I had to vote Compound with sights.... I'm hoping to change that vote to the Longbow, because this season as I'm goin Traditional!!

Good luck there Joe B!! I have a feeling you will be getting it done big time this year, your excited and that is awesome!! My 1st year I was nervous has heck with my recurve, my 1st animal was a 160lb bear I shot in northern Mn. After that 1st one my nerves settled down some but they still are nuts yet, thats the joy of it.

Shoot right handed with no sights, and left with sights, either way I guess, I use both.

I voted Recurve and Aluminum, made the switch from compound 13 years ago and will never ever go back to wheels. I love the challenge of Traditional bow hunting. Its allot of fun and addicting once you start figuring things out. Takes time and patience. If you don't have either, your wasting your time!

I try with my recurve every year in early season, but have never had a shot. Then I start taking my compound, and start killing deer, so the recurve won't hunt until next year. Oh well, maybe sometime.

Thats really cool schulty...And that guy that got a bear with a recurve! I took 2 with a compound and my knees shoot like crazy....I would love to stick a bruin with a recurve....Maybe I'll make that a 2010 goal for Quebec...In 2009 I take the wife to yellowstone...but I have her convinced that we need to take an Antelope on our way through.....Its all about finess when you're married....

Yep Rob! The Truth be known they would shoot animals multiple times many times chasing them on ponies. The way Indians really hunted and the way TV, Movies, and many fictional books portray the Indian as a hunter are far from being accurate. They hunted for survival and ethics were not part of the deal. My Great, Great Grandad was Full blooded Cherokee. My Mom's side, even though I don't have any Indian features my Mom always said that's where I got my Love of the Outdoors and Bowhunting. My Dad never hunted nor did his Dad (my Grand Dad;))

I've killed Deer with a recurve and Aluminum swaged arrows with hand sharpened Zwickeys glued on. My preferred weapon today is a compound with sights. I started making my own bows and arrows when I was big enough to get a hold of a few tools.:D

I did "harvest" a cat once with a fiberglass long bow and wooden arrow. Does that count? I did have a finish nail taped to the bow as a site pin.

I'll hunt exclsuively with the longbow until I harvest a deer in '08.....then all bets are off. I'll take the compounds in.

You need to set the poll up to accept multiple answers. I do all of 'em except flint. Plus I make and shoot my own midieval crossbow replicas.

My first longbow you had to shoot off your knuckles and even as a kid I could not figure out why there was not something for the arrow to ride on. Why anyone would do it today is beyond me! Kind of like cutting your forearm with your pocket knife on purpose ever time you pull it out of your pocket .

Thanks for the vote of confidence Steve! I can't seem to put my longbow down, all I want to do is shoot, shoot, shoot! Too much fun, look at the target, concentrate and put the arrow where I'm looking! I love it!

I learned archery with a compound and have accumulated a few recurves but i don't have the time i need to become profficiant with them yet.

Yes and and I knapped my own point and made my bow out of ceder. I was 16 years oldat the time andthe deerwas a small doe.
