Not sure Drop---on the military base I hunt this year, I met a disabled vet that returned about a year ago...the guy was transporting something when all of the sudden a bomb went off...it killed some guys in the truck. He said that the blast blew both of his ear drums, broke his knee caps, and broke his collarbone. When he got out he said he was going on adrenalin and gunfire ensued....he took a round threw his cheek that went out the backside of his jaw. GOODNESS...and this guy still was not receiving disability payments from the government..all he was receiving was his pension from the military which was not a bunch since he was only in about 12 years, so it was not a full pension. He was out in the woods trying to hunt, but you could tell he was struggling....

It's bull-chit what you see some of these Vets. going thru. To me they should be taken well care of andI would gladly pay an extra tax to help out. These damn polititions send these young men out to do their dirty workthen go home to their mansions and Hampton lifestyles. [:@][:@] It's just wrong on every level. These brave souls should get the best medical care and full compensation with lump sums and full pay for life.

It took me 15 years to get my disability approved, and if I wasn't persistent I would not have gotten anything.We can't do enough for are newest heroes.

That is crap dmen.......thank you for your service. My dad is starting to suffer the strains of the military lifestyle he lived for 25 years in the Marine Corps, two tours in Nam, and 10 months in Baghdad. Strange that he just turned 61 and was just recently told he has full blown diabetes...I wonder if it was that Agent Orange crap....he also got Malaria in Vietnam and suffered with that for awhile....my points is, these people need to be take care of by our country....warriors need to heal. |

I believe several hunting groups deal with Wounded Warriors to provide hunting opportunities for vets. I am headed to the state VFW conference tomorrow, so I will check around to see what is new.

It only (and I say 'only' because many veterans go years before getting the appropriate compensation) took me three years to get to where I am receiving 70% disability. They initially only granted 10%[:'(] I just about crapped when I received my comp. letter stating that. So I went through the VFW who pointed me to a local government funded agency(Georgia Department of Veterans Service), that represented me through many letters, medical documents (from my military records and civilian doctors) and phone calls, finally got me to where I am.
There are hunting groups that provide a way for disabled veterans to hunt. You just have to do what you're doing and search the internat, ask other hunters and rely on local resources to find out. Folks like Gundeck, are perfect people to network with in order to find information :D By the way Gundeck, what part of the Finger Lakes are you from? I'm originally from Ithaca (bottom of Cayuga lake). |

Skewtir.... same thing happened to me when I got out. They said 10 on my leg and 20 on my hearing but would give me nothing. 33 years later I went to them to try and get some hearing aid help. They said not without us testing you. I had just the daybefore been tested by a doctor and had the results with me. If you look at the hearing test from 1973 and the new one they were identical. Nothing changed. This time VA said I was 50 percent. So for about33 years longer I should have been getting payments. They finally came through with a permanent disability for something that happened 33 years before. I tried to get back payments and they said NO DICE. Now witha couplelittle skin cancers, a growth on my backand the one on my eye and with elevated sugar they're running more test for diabetes caused from Agent Orange. That would put me at 100 percent automatically if the sugar levels stay up. I'm border line. My 90 day counts are way over the limit but everytime they testsugar I'm just under by a couple points.
