RE: boy some bow hunters just make me sick
ORIGINAL: rybohunter It's not about rifle vs bow, its a debate on management. Most feel that having a rifle season during the rut allows for too many bucks to be killed. Bow seasons aren't as effective on a widespread basis at controlling deer numbers as gun seasons are. So yes, in my opinions gun seasons should be kept out of the rut, not because I don;t like guns, but becuase I like to allow bucks to grow older. |
RE: boy some bow hunters just make me sick
Most feel that having a rifle season during the rut allows for too many bucks to be killed. I don't think that moving the season out of the rut would reduce the amount of bucks killed by that much. I know I could kill one with the gun and bow every year if I wanted to shoot any buck. |

I don’t see how anyone that says hunting with a rifle isn’t WAY easier than hunting with a bow. I also hunt with a rifle, but I think that many of the states have way to liberal of a rifle season. Could say a few more things about many of the firearm/rifle hunters that I’ve seen, but I don’t want to give the anti’s any ammo….
Hunting during the rut with firearms can happen, it just needs to be managed properly. You can’t have unlimited firearm tags (buck tags) with long seasons during the rut and expect many mature deer to make it through. Then everyone’s unhappy anyway… |

This is how Ky does the opening weekend of gun season,RUT.
This is off of 1 farm and mostly does. This is more common than not, more take does during gun season than most think.Big bucks just aren't targeted by most, even during the rut by gun hunters. ![]() |

RE: boy some bow hunters just make me sick
ORIGINAL: GMMAT I'd be more happy if they made the slaughter a "little" tougher on gun hunters. IMO.....I want gun hunters to have their fair share of time in the woods hunting. I just don't see why that has to be in the rut.....when bucks are at their most vulnerable. I want NOTHING taken away from gun hunters. Give them their weeks afield. Good luck to them. Answer me this.......you live in NC....where you can basically kill ALL the does you want to. But.....Rifle season starts when the rut starts. WHY woud you waste your time on a doe.....when it's the BEST time to kill a buck? It's no wonder there are more bucks killed in NC than does. This isn't rocket science. |
