[quote]ORIGINAL: Hunter Dan7 ORIGINAL: MOhunter46 ORIGINAL: Hunter Dan7 Gunners get to uses guns that can shoot a really long ways witch makes it easyier so why do they get a time of year when the deer are the dumbest. i dont dissagree with gun hunting but i dont think it needs to be during the rut. its just to easy. i gun hunt to but what im saying is that I shot a nice 8 point this year at 7 YARDS, Way to easy. [quote] If you think it's so easy then why do you gun hunt? If i thought something was way to easy then i would quit that and find something else that was more challenging. I gun hunt because idon't think it's way to easy. It's still a challenge and you still have to make a good shot.JMO |

ORIGINAL: TFOX ORIGINAL: GMMAT I'd be more happy if they made the slaughter a "little" tougher on gun hunters. IMO.....I want gun hunters to have their fair share of time in the woods hunting. I just don't see why that has to be in the rut.....when bucks are at their most vulnerable. Gun hunters are not a part of population control they are the key IMO. In MI us bowhunters have failed IMO. BTW I am looking at this not as one better than another, but what is best for the deer. |

And 7 yards with a bow is a hard shot? I've bowhunted for 21 years, gun hunted 22 years and I still don't see the reason for the big divide. I enjoy both and will continue to use both. As far as gun season hunters killing more bucks, I've always thought it had alotto do with the fact everyone and their brother is in the woods....getting the deer moving.[&:] |
RE: boy some bow hunters just make me sick
ORIGINAL: TEmbry LOL elitism in its purist form. People advocating stripping the rights of gun hunters during rut, but not one of you (except germ;)) mentioned no bowhunting during this time. Gun hunting = easy.......bull. I dont buy it for a second, yea you can shoot farther, if you have the skill to do so. Why is it that gun hunters are looked at as less of hunters or less passionate because their weapon is more efficient? I cant for the life of me understand this. I dont here Schultzy and all the trad guys bitching and moaning about compound hunters getting too long of a season. Gun hunters get two weeks here, bow hunters get 4.5 MONTHS. IMO the playing field is already leveled. I used to be one whining about rifle season being in rut, but then i realized that rifle hunters are hunters too.Heck i rifle hunt. The deer get run ragged just about the whole season on the farm I hunt because we let the youth hunt. |
RE: boy some bow hunters just make me sick
Here in Missouri we are looking at an across the board 4 point on at least one side restriction and possabilya one buck per year limit. Moving our anterless rifle season to early Oct., like the first weekend of the month. Moving the start of rifle season to the Sat. beforeThanksgiving so it catches the tail end of the rut. And moving themuzzel loader season to later in Dec. Bow season will still be open from Sept.15th - Jan. 15th, except during the 10 days of rifle season, when you can still bow hunt but you have to have a rifle tag. Youth rifle season will still be the last weekend of Oct. Thiswill help protect younger bucks, andharvest more does. But, more importantlyhaving the rifle seasonduring Thanksgiving break will give kids 2 or 3 more days to hunt with out skipping school and we need all the kids hunting we can get. Also, as a teacher and coach it will let me use my vacation daysto bow hunt during the best part of the rut. |

Germ, yes, the gun hunters are the key to population controll.
In Ky,early doe seasons are not necessary because we have liberal doe seasons anyway and plenty of early opportunities to take them with muzzleloaders and youth hunters with rifles. I really feel Ky is a model example of how to manage deer herds,NOT PERFECT but from some of the stuff I read on here and other places,MUCH CLOSER to getting it right than most. |
RE: boy some bow hunters just make me sick
i do not live in NC anymore i moved back to Indiana
you say you wont gun hunters to have there fair share what is fair about bow hunters getting 6 months and gun hunters get a few weeks. really does not seem fair to me. In Indiana you get 2 deer then you Can get more per the bonus antler less deer tags which go by county. in my county it is 4 total one buck. and even in NC you only got 6 deer one buck most states have a one two or three buck rule so it does not matter when gun season is one hunter will only legally take their limit. I still do not see any one saying they would be OK with the rut being bow only and gun and bow season the rest of the time. ORIGINAL: GMMAT I'd be more happy if they made the slaughter a "little" tougher on gun hunters. IMO.....I want gun hunters to have their fair share of time in the woods hunting. I just don't see why that has to be in the rut.....when bucks are at their most vulnerable. I want NOTHING taken away from gun hunters. Give them their weeks afield. Good luck to them. Answer me this.......you live in NC....where you can basically kill ALL the does you want to. But.....Rifle season starts when the rut starts. WHY woud you waste your time on a doe.....when it's the BEST time to kill a buck? It's no wonder there are more bucks killed in NC than does. This isn't rocket science. |
