always use one...soon as i leave the ground on the climber..

i lied...one time this year i didnt....took it, wore it...went to tie off to find out i couldnt use it hunting from my buddies tree lounge..its a bigger, older model and he leaves it there like a lock on. i just couldnt stand up if i was tied off...ended up killing my first bow buck that day from it :eek: that thing scared me...liked it...just didnt like how far away from the tree i felt when standing and how it was so far out it kinda shook and moved alot...would definently liked to been tied off...stupid stupid move...it was breaking light and the temp was the coldest it been...a low just moved out of the area...i KNEW it was the day...and nowhere else to hold my summit in that area...going to have to make a longer tie off rope for that stand if i hunt it next season...

Make me number 2 to admit, I never wear one. I also hunt almost solely from a climber, or from the ground, and don't even have a seat on my climber for a reason. I believe that many of the guys that fall out of trees fall out because they fall asleep, and I don't sleep while on stand, that's not why I'm there, and if I'm that tired I stay home. I've rolled the dice for many years, and I remember when NO ONE wore them, and you never heard of them, and you didn't hear about as many falls as you do know. I know a few guys that have fallen, and 2 fell asleep, and one had "rigged" his treestand up, all three were there faults, and they readily admitted it. The one guy has falled at least 3 times from falling asleep, mostly low stands, 12 - 14 feet, now I agree HE oughtto be wearing a harness, I'm just not ready to put one on because they make me feel less "safe" than more. No bashing those who do, and I'd urge you guys to wear them, I'm just not personally choosing to wear one.

Still have never used one, cept for one of those old style loops that go under your arms and that was in a tiny bolt on way up high, otherwise I'm only in ladder stands mostly with a shooting rest always, so i do feel a little more secure, am strongly considering getting a harness this year, have tons from all the treestands Ive bought but those are just included with the stand, I'd like to get a nice one if any, somethign simple to use/put on.

I have wondered are treestands worth it? the advantages over the people who have died, paralized? etc....? and now more and more deer are looking up, i wonder if ground hunting will start growing/make more of a comeback.

A friend of a friend always hunts alone......and this 1 day he had a buddy hunting with him, he falls out of a stand an broke his back, if his friend hadn't been there, he'd still be laying there probably.

Never fall asleep? I don't have the luxury of hunting close to home.....and sit on stand for the entire day at times. You do get tired doing nothing all day, lunchtime...etc.....early morings, if im that tired and have a chance of falling out of a stand, i'll get down to sleep.

I understand and agree. I napped for a little while each day while Elk Hunting in CO a few years ago, and on occasion when I had full day outings, I hunted on the ground on one property, and I did take a little cat nap a couple times there, I also got woke up by a little forky browsing not 10yds from me late morning(around 11:00), surprised me more than him, he just kept on browsing. I swear they know when they are safe, and when they should be concerned.

I don't really worry about falling from my stand, none of mine are over 16 feet. I do construction, and I am a lot higher up then 16 feet. I have fallen off a ladder, I was about 14 feet up, it didn't really hurt that much. I am more worried about some stupid hunter, winging bullets into the timber, hitting me, have had that happen, but didn't hit me
