Hey Greg/MO (updated w/ pics of home on page 2)

Just saw your hometown on the news. It said 75% of Jackson was out of power. Hope you're one of the lucky ones and you do have power. Just checking to see if there is anything you need down there or if there is anything we can do for you.

Take care and give us a hollar if you can.:)

We had the sleet mixed with rain and snow, but Greg/Mo had the freezing rain in his area that caused much more damage! [&:]

I'm sure he is in contact with his wife. He texted me again today when I text him that I was being snowed on and he was enjoying the sunshine and scenery. He said his wife had called him about 3" of ice. I hope all is good.

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Thanks, guys... I do really appreciate the thoughts. Just got out of our annual gala awards event (that's why I'm down here... National Business Conference with my medical sales company) and popped on here for a bit...

Yep, I'm fine, but my house has been without power since about 8 p.m. yesterday... Wife said it looks like a war zone around our subdivision and the street leading up to it is a crazy maze of downed power lines and huge trees. I fly back in the morning and I hope to find the house and especially the roof in decent order; she said she could hear stuff falling on it loud enough to vibrate the walls. :(

mobow 02-12-2008 08:48 PM

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Well glad you've been able to be in contact, and glad all appears well....Seriously though.....if you were to need some help....I could be there in a couple hours....This weekend of course....Gotta work...you know how that is...

Or maybe you don't.....where did you say you were?? Florida??? Yeah...you poor, poor guy..... I'm sure you're worried about home though.

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Thanks, Don... I hope I don't have to take any of you up on your offer, but it's comforting to know it's there.

And don't let the current surroundings fool you, either... though I did have some fun with Rob and Scott last night by describing my one night out -- it was just that: my one night out. Other than having astupidly priced meal (I had the $$ amount written at first, just for mymeal alone, and it simply looked too absurd :))meal in South Beach, we might as well have been in a Holiday Inn in Festus, Missouri because all I've seen other than that four-hour period is four walls and endless meetings...

I know all about that noise and feeling. We had the same problem back in Dec. of '06. We were out for 6 + days back then. Some in our area were out for 2 weeks. That is why I thought I'd check if you were without power. I know it's no fun. At least we had a generator, and I heat with wood most of the time anyway. Good luck when you get home Greg.

Glad you popped on Greg and I wish you the best of luck on your return trip home. I'm too far but your in my thoughts and prayers for a safe return home and a safe home.

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Well, here's what it looked like when I got home ... We were very fortunate and blessed to really have not had much damage to our own place. I took the family out today for a drive through town, and it literally looks like a war zone through much of it. Many roads are one-lane paths with mounds of tree limbs and branches piled as high as 10 feet high on either side, and there's still some places without power even tonight.

This was the view off my back deck this morning. Believe it or not, this pic wasn't taken until around 10 or so, after the sun had several hours to melt some of it off:

My wife made a venison stew for one of our local conservation agents and his family who are still without power. This is the view from the interstateon our way to theconservation center afterwe weaved our way through town:

Like I said, we were very fortunate and blessed. This was the only real damage to our place. This is the small dog pen off the back of our house that our lab goes to when we let him out of the house. The branches here are bigger than my upper thigh, and fell from about seventy feet up:

Thanks for the thoughts guys...

Man Greg, I'm thankful you're family and home are safe. I always though that iced over tree are beautiful BUT MAN, are they ever dangerous.

Hey good to see that your house was ok, my parents live in Hillsboro, and my brother lives in Jackson, my dad was stuck in Jackson for about two days because of all the Ice.

mobow 02-15-2008 05:49 AM

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Man, I know ice is a danger, and it sure sucks for those without power and all that.....but man is that ever beautiful!!

Glad all is well in your neck of the woods, Greg. Ummm.......I'm guessing there wasn't any ice in Florida, save the stuff in the bottom of your glass....:D

hardcorehunter 02-15-2008 06:38 AM

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Glad I live in New Mexico.

Greg / MO 02-15-2008 07:07 AM

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Yeah, it IS actually beautiful... until you drive through town and it literally looks like an F4 tornado came through.

And nope, Don... no ice in Florida. Amazing the temp difference from one part of the country to the next. When we were flying over home about to land in St. Louis, I was snapping some pics with my Treo phone out the window looking down at all the ice.

That's what's really amazing... I've seen ice on trees before, obviously, but with all that "white" on the ground you see -- NONE of it is snow; that's ALL ice.

Good to hear you made it through relatively unscathed Greg. Here's hoping that those that weren't so lucky can bounce back quickly.

It looks pretty, but really does a job on the power lines.
I know cause I am out in it putting them back up!!! Couple years back we had some bad ice in the Poconos that had people out for 7 to 10 days.
Hope you get your power back soon.

RE: Hey Greg/MO

well greg you survieived the first par. Last year we had an ice storm just as bad rip through our part of illinois and man the wind made a mess once everything looked exactly like your pictures. When the tree fell on our line we were with out power for 14 days. thank GOD for a wood stove. But becareful this spring when you git your first real nasty storm with high winds because now you will have lots of weak trees that are gunna fall all apart.

bloodcrick 02-16-2008 05:46 AM

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Dang Greg, can you imagine if the wind picked up with all that ice hanging, it could get dangerous out there.

Greg / MO 02-16-2008 06:49 AM

RE: Hey Greg/MO

Exactly Dan... They were actually calling for high winds the very next day and it had everyone scared to death; fortunately they didn't come.
