Secret bait recipe?? ever heard of it?
has anyone heard of the following recipe? I ran across it on a website yesterday.
goto to the link if you want to see pictures, but it's not worth it if your just on a modem. I'm new to hunting period. This IS baiting right? Is that legal in Illinois? I believe I read the other day that you could bait so long as your bait was gone 10 days before opening of bow season, right? IL-bow-man? IL Trophy hunter? http://www.itd.umich.edu/~jeffreym/h...t_revealed.htm Super Secret Revealed!! The statute of limitations has expired on my promise NOT to expose "Super Secret", so I reveal it here and now. Hunters, hold on to your socks on this one. Try it, you'll like it!!!. Super Secret is a mixture of things that deer love. Oddly, few hunters put them all together at the same time. Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full with semi-clean water (well, stream or pond). Next, pour in a cup or two of molasses. Add some apple cider (the real thing) or apple juice (not as good) as in here. Next, add a tablespoon or two or vanilla. REAL vanilla is best. Add some chopped apples. This is not in the original formula, but why not? Then some ALFALFA CUBES. Alfa-timothy cubes are even better (same price $7.00 50 lbs). I purchase them at a local grain elevator. These are also great ALONE, for winter hunting. Deer love them, they don't freeze and are light to carry. Then then The cubes will soak up all the liquid (remember to stir it all up prior to adding the cubes). Finally, add a pound or two of corn. Let it sit on top and do NOT mix up the corn with the other ingredients. After the Super Secret sits for an hour (longer is better here) or so, take it out to the killing zone and turn the bucket up side down. The corn will be on the bottom and the juices will run all over it. Deer will tear this up. You may want to limit the amount of Super Secret that you put out since deer will start to leave large greasy green droppings every where.................ITS VERY RICH. |

This is baiting. As to the regs, you'll have to get info or wait for other replies. I have heard of similar receipes, but not exact. Alfa is a very good bait food, high in nutrients, as is corn, barley, etc. The others are sweets and have long been thought to be good attractants for deer. Although success may vary from area to area. ie: places with apple orchards could be a great area, but mainly cereal or hay crop locations may not. The only real way to know is try, if legal.

You can no longer feed deer in IL. That should make this recipe illegal here.

I am with buckfevr on this one. A while back the DNR announced a ban on feeding deer....even in the off season. This was done to keep the deer from concentrating in one area to try and hold back the CWD as long as possible. Before that the regs did read that it had to be removed 10 days prior to hunting that spot. But as a side note, just because you remove visible evidence of baiting does not mean that you have removed the bait. If an officer were to catch it, who says he can't take a handfull of soil in for testing?

"to prevent the spread of CWD."
Well I have a follow up question then. I've not heard of any other states doing this (not that I 'hear' a lot)... is this effective or just a shot in the dark? |

i herd it is a 1000 fine in Il. if your are cought.

From the information I have heard, CWD transmits faster when the deer all congregate in one area. If you feed them or bait them into a certain area, it promotes the spread if in fact the disease is in the area.
That is how I understand it. Shot in the dark..... maybe, but you have to start somewhere. Right or wrong....we will probablly never know. ![]() My Web Page www.geocities.com/hfpmad Moderator Cup Webpage www.geocities.com/moderatorcup |

CWD is relatively new to DNR's (well in the widespread state it is in now), however to minimize the concentration of deer or any other animals reduces spread of many or any disease. It is both a shot in the dark and a fact, they really have no way other then to destroy and minimize effected animals on the main herd.
The real point you should take from this is it is not legal, so don't do it!!!! If you bait you are a poacher in eyes of the law and ulitimately with your peers as well. Many other ways to increase your odds of success, that are legal. So just do some scouting, research and start trying them to see what works. I can legally bait in my area, but have chose not to...to me it is not the edge that really puts you over the top, just another technique of hunting. In now way do I think it is the best technique available to me and my area that is legal, thus I don't bother with it. |
RE: Secret bait recipe?? ever heard of it?
Don't worry, nobody's talking about breakin' the law. <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> I was actualy just asking the question because as I said above, I do not live in Illinois yet, but will for this hunting season probably.

RE: Secret bait recipe?? ever heard of it?
It would be considered illegal here in WI. too. Except in the Eradication Zone where CWD was found. Go figure.
