Fletching rookie
 

Im wanting to start fletching my own arrows and I know alot of you guys do this yourselves so I thought this would be a good place to ask;)

What jig would you recommend for a rookie at this? What else do i need?

Obviously I need glue...and vanes/feathers...What kind do you use?

Is there anything else Ill need?

The best I've ever used is the Bitzenberger fletch tool.

I'm currently using Blazers and highly recommend them. I may fletch some hunting arrows with some feathers more for the look as I have zero issue with tuning Blazers.

The Bitz may cost a little more, but it is better to spend the money first go round. The Bitz is top of the line!;)

Bitz is a must have. You wont reget it. I shoot a recurve, so feathers are my game. Gateway or truflight. dont worry about right vs. left helical, the biggest difference is that the points wont try to untighten with right. Other than that, it doesnt matter. I shoot 5" feathers, sheild cut. Not much difference between the 2. sheild has a little more drag and stabilizes quicker. Plus, I like the traditional look. As for glue, good old fletch tite works best for me. just wipe the shafts with alcohol to get any oils off. If you are reshafting, soak them in acetone to remove all the old glue. I shoot aluminum, so Im not sure if that works with carbon or not.

I bought a Grayling Jig about 6 years ago and have fletched all my own arrows since then. The jig cost me $30.00 and I've never had a problem with it! I use it for 2" Blazers, 3" & 4" Parabolic feathers for my Compound and 5" Shield Cut feathers for my Longbow with not one problem! It does 1 feather at a time and I can do a half dozen arrows in no time!

Bitz jig, straight clamp, 2" blazers, Goat-Tuff glue (super glue will work too), denatured alcohol, G5 ASD. Search around for the best deals, I bought all that stuff for around $150.

OKbowhunter I just started doing my own this past year because the shop that I use to go to closed and it cost to much to have someone else do it plus the drive time. I went to my new Pro shop, asked some questions and got what I needed. I went with three different color blazers. One for my practice arrows and the other two for the two different huntingheads I use. They look great and they work great and it is easy to do.

I'm with the Majority , get the Bitzenburger . Its a great piece of kit , i use alsouse Quikspin ST 2" fletching .
