Large dead buck found
I was hunting with one of my good buddies in Coshocton County, Ohio. Its was towards the end of the 2nd day and we were heading back in after not seeing a single deer throughout the day. About 100 yards from the cabin i could see the tips of an antler sticking out from a little outcropping of rocks. When i walked up on it i found the remains of a big 10 point that had ben dead for some time. All that was left were scattered bones and the skull. The antlers were a little moss covered and had been chewed on but they were still in pretty good shape. I havnt been able to score it yet, but i plan on it next time i have some free time.

RE: Large dead buck found
I don't mean to hijack this thread but I gotta ask.
I have asked this before but why is it such a shame when a buck with large antlers dies but when a doe or small basket rack buck dies it doesn't get the same "what a shame", "I hate to see one like that die", we see the [:@][:'(][>:]:(faces,etc... etc... Are we that greedy about bone? Why isn't it a "shame" when someone finds a doe skull covered in moss? |
RE: Large dead buck found

RE: Large dead buck found
Thats a nice one! It's a shame when any deer is found dead like that.

RE: Large dead buck found
That's not what mean and i didn't ask to detract fro it being a heck of a buck.
At no time do people share the same sorrow when they see a dead doe. Not just on forums or here. It seems to be a hey look, a dead deer. Great find butI don't think it is a bad thing that it was dead unless it died from being gut shot or something like that. |
RE: Large dead buck found
Sure was a good one

RE: Large dead buck found
Well Bigbulls.. there have been recent posts about finding dead and/or dying does. (Mine, GMMATS...even Rob chimed in on one he had to put down this summer) They all get to us..They are all a shame, It's just not many people are gonna lug home a doe skull, or get the camera and go take pics of it.
I understand your point of view..it's not that we think less of does and fawns or everyday bucks when unnatural or even naturaldeath occurs. But yes these true Giants fuel our dreams, when one dies, we feel cheated..another doe is right around the corner..another Giant?? Who Knows... |
RE: Large dead buck found
I don't know about anyone else, but the ratio of dead bucks to dead does that I find in the woods, well, dead bucks are a enough of a rarity that they do cause a person to take notice.
So far this year I have found 3 dead does while out looking for sheds. From what I can tell by brushing away the snow and ice (and a good portion of the carcass is still embedded in ice) all three were fawns. Last year I believe we found 5 dead does, and 1 big buck (for our area) guess which head we brought out of the woods? Just the nature of the game I guess, all of the dead wasted deer were a shame. |
RE: Large dead buck found
I have a question, is there a product a person can use to replace the end tip on the horns where the have been eaten off I have set with about 2in missing off of a G3 THANKS

RE: Large dead buck found
Man those are some wicked brow tines on that deer! By the way if you bleached the skull, and scrub those tines that would be a wicked European skull mount. |
RE: Large dead buck found
Man that sure was a nice buck. i used to play ball for the Coshocton Cherokees in the summer so i know that areaa little. That county along with holmes, knox and Tusc. counties put out big deer every year. My families farm is north of coshocton county, the know holmes line bisects the farm.
