Jeff, yes, somewhat you are correct. You can always know the distance to the wall. And those on the same level will be close to the same yardage give or take a few as you rarely shoot straight on, it's from one side to the other but minus the incline, it's similiar to your old indoor range.

GMMAt, like RJ said. you shoot down the line and the targets are spread allover at different levels. The angles sometimes are nuts. And when you get to the finals they make it as hard as possible. Also you shoot up and back the line. It is challanging but fun to shoot. Oh and do not forget the 200 people lined up behind you at the fence talking and asking you "hey how far is tha elk?" etc. it is cool but sometimes annoying. because if you start shooting well you kinda get a little peanut gallery following you up and down the line.

And your definitely right about finals. Last year there was only 2 targets on the bottom level for HC finals, it was MUCH harder than the qualifying round. They had one turkey that was at max range in finals last year that was such an extreme angle if you went 1" hot on it, you would glance off into the bleachers.....lol. I played "safe" on that one and just stuck it low in the 8 ring on purpose just so I knew I would get foam on it.

Jeff, yes, daily winners only qualify for the finals. They did not win the overall shoot, just a place in the finals, daily winners are qualifiers only. Only first place moves on.

here's what I'm wondering, Rob.......
WHY wouldn't they take the best overall scores from the week.....REGARDLESS of which day it was shot? ISn't everyone shooting the same course?

Don't know, it's just how they do it and it's the only place I've seen it done. You could shoot higher on one day than all others except that one guy that beat you that day and not make the finals. You have to win your day to move on. It is what it is. That's why Matt, Matt and I didn't shoot on the same days. We'd be beating each other and knocking one another out before the finals.

The format is a bit strange to be honest. Last year I watched the scores through the week, and there were days when no one even shot in certain classes, and I'm sure there are days when there are quite a few VERY good shooters that compete at the same timeand knock each other out of qualifying. Then there are guys that shoot the course several times all week long, and finally hit it on a day when they can qualify.......I remember hearing guys on the line last year that said they had shot the thing 3-4 timesthat week and that it was their last chance to qualify (I qualified on the last shooting line for the entire week).
In the end though I love the fact that all the guys in thefinals are paired up and policing themselves. It at least brings some honesty to the finals event, and breaks up the buddy groups to help preventpencil whipping. It's really a very fun shoot and the show in general is an annual social GTG for me and all my old college buddies, it's the only time of the year I get to see a lot of them. I went to school just about 1/2 an hour south of there and worked in harrisburg for about 6 years, so it's a pretty cool trip for me.
