New release for 9yr old ...

I just picked up a Buckwing caliper release for my 9yr olds first release (keystone country store $14.99). Seems to fit him good but my concern ( or more his concern) is that it has what seems to be a "hair" trigger. I have adjusted it as tight (or heavy) as i can for him and its still really touchy.

Does anyone have any recomendations on a good youth release that may have a more controllable trigger.. I don't want him to get discouraged with shooting equipment he's not comfortable with. Also as a safety issue...He knows to keep his finger away from the trigger until ready to "fire", but I can sense some hessitation in him when he pulls back...Thanks for your input.

RE: New release for 9yr old ...

Good training is to have him put his finger behind the trigger and use that finger to push forward on the trigger as he draws. That'd give him a little more confidence. He's doing something to reduce the potential of the releaseaccidently goingoff while he's pulling.

Another thing, if possible, would be to adjust the length of the release so the trigger fits into the middle knuckle of his finger instead of the first knuckle. There's a lot less finger movement there, so the light pull won't be nearly as noticeable.

RE: New release for 9yr old ...

my son (turns 7 in about 2 weeks) has been using a patriot jr release for over a month now on his first real bow... not a single misfire or anything, he's very safe with it, something he carried over from rifle shooting buy not even touching the trigger until you're ready to go... truthfully, I'd suggest just getting more practice... he'l get more comfy the more he shoots and it will go away...
