New Hoyt Katera

I just went and put my order in for a Katera today, I shot the 82, the x-force and the Katera. To me the Katera was the best shooting of them all, the 82 seemed very loud, the x-force was very nice i just was scared of a pse so i stayed with what i knew.

I also loved the Katera, not too fond of the 6" brace height, but still a great shooting bow.

you should check out the 07 vulcan from hoyt. almost the same bow. 5fps slower. but you can find good deals on them since they switch to the katera. check the specs, they look and feel the same.

RE: New Hoyt Katera

i still favor the old short risers and longer limbs for looks. But it seems the new bows are going to be much faster. I was a little scared of the 6 in brace height but well see if it effects my shooting. My Havoc tec is like 7 3/4.

Funny, a guy buys a Hoyt and the thread gets very little attention but if he'd bought a Bowtech then the same threadwould go 5 pages plus ... go figure

FWIW, congrats on the Katera, I was impressed with it when I shot it.

I just ordered a Katera XL,70lbs.,31",Z3 camsfrom Len @ Macrotech. The bow has a plus 7" brace height, but more importantly,a low reflexed riser. At the same time,I ordered new Vapor Trail string and cables. When the bow comes in,Lenny will "Macroize" it.This should be interesting...Bob

Sooner, it's probably only because there was a Katera thread a couple days ago... I posted on that thread that I shot the Katera several times at the ATA show in Indy; it's a very nice bow, and I probably liked it as much as I did any of the rest of those that I shot from all the other manufacturers.

Yeah if it's not about aBowtech or a GMMAT started thread your post is going nowhere...LOL Although Hoyt is the better bow....:)
Keep us posted on how it shoots. And let us know some speeds under IBO regulations so we actually have an idea of how fast it is instead of using an arrow that is 200 grains to lite [:@].

Congrats on the new bow! I shot the Vectrix XL and the Vulcan last year at the pro shop I buy from. Both shot well and I thought they were nice bows. I haven't had the chance to shoot a Katera yet, but I'm sure it is a winner.

RE: New Hoyt Katera

i will defin. keep everyone updated, i cant wait to get it in and tinker with it, hopefully its as good as expected. im looking for 300-310 fps out of it. 28 in draw, probably 65-67 lbs and around a 350 gr arrow. ill go to 70 if i can gain some muscle LOL guess i should get off here and hit the gym!

Matt/TN 01-29-2008 10:07 AM

RE: New Hoyt Katera

I'm guessing about 290-297fps, with a 28" draw, #65, and a 350gr arrow.

stevezt4 01-29-2008 11:19 AM

RE: New Hoyt Katera

just a question, How are you able to come up with speeds based on those "known" numbers?

Can someone shed some light so i dont have further questions later and maybe then i can answer my own questions. Thanks, for all the insight.

stevezt4 01-31-2008 03:24 PM

RE: New Hoyt Katera

Well the results are in

with a 363 grain arrow at 68 lbs 300 fps with a 28 in draw that gives me 72.56 lbs of kinetic energy

same arrow 62 lbs 291 fps
same arrrow 66 lbs 297 fps
Well i did hit the 300 mark but i guess my short draw length and the extra weight of the arrowslowed it down a little bit. My guess is itll still be fast enough!

If only Santa had brought me a Katera;), I wasinthe proshop after a shoot last week looking at one and personally after seeing it shot i thought it was one of the nicer bows they had in there:eek:

I love it Im going to go take a picture of it and itll be up in a few minutes. I stole the accessories off my old bow until my wife "authorizes" the purchase of new accessories!

RE: New Hoyt Katera

Great looking bow. I am suprised to see you have an overdraw on it.

stevezt4 01-31-2008 06:44 PM

RE: New Hoyt Katera

yea well the only reason there is an overdraw is because I had one on my other bow and just bought new arrows, so instead of spending 75.00 right now ill wait another month or 2 and take it off and get some different arrows.

The next question,
Is 300 fps enough or should I try and get something lighter to boost the speed a little or is it even necesary for a hunting rig?

Steve,

I just ordered mine yesterday. How long did it take for you to get it? Here is my set-up:

Katera 26" draw
Fuse Intrepid Sight
Fuse 4" Stabilizer
Fuse Quiver
QAD Ultra-Rest Pro Series LD

stevezt4 01-31-2008 07:15 PM

RE: New Hoyt Katera

actually, I went to order mine and they ordered it. I then received a call the next day confirming the measurements and they had one in stock in their warehouse. So they didnt have to order it after all. Sounds like you are going to have a nice setup.
They were saying it would be about 2 months due to all the ordering this time of year they are pretty backed up. Hopefully you get yours sooner.

My friend has that bow and really likes it. Congadulations man. Oh, the cat and turkey mount is awesome.

RE: New Hoyt Katera

looks good, congrats, 300 is plenty. what grn arrow?

stevezt4 01-31-2008 07:21 PM

RE: New Hoyt Katera

Yea I really like the bow so far, I shoot it really well for only having it one day and shooting indoors.
Here is a wall in my man cave "basement", This lake trout is going in between the two deer after i get it back from the taxidermist
its a 363 grain arrow
Sportsfann: You get a lot more speed outta that X-Force!
