Good info on location

The current NAW has this article with a map and chart ranking the top 11 states with the highest number of BC bucks per square mile from 2001-2006.

So more about location:D I'm bored

PA, OH, KY are coming on strong.
Looks like MI and NY are the odd states out:( Those state lines must keep all the big deer out[8D]

Thanks Germ,I thought you were trying to keep ky on the down low.:D

Iknew we were 2nd at 1 point but didn't realise that we still were.I wish I was a contributing factor.

****, the pressure is on since I live in Wisconsin. I guess I need to go in the woods next year and kill a bruiser with my Longbow then take a walk in the woods and blast an even bigger one with the Shotgun! Then I go over to Michigan and eat tag soup or kill a spiker!:D:D:D:D

Thanks Germ, I can't wait!:)

I like to throw in hunter numbers, and huntable land to those charts and come up with my own scoring system, if you know what I mean ;).

THat would be a twist on it.

I think we find NY as the most pressured state, IMO

I had read the article also.I knew Kentucky was ranked high.I was encouraged to see Pennsylvania coming on strong,of course we know Gary Alt ruined the quality of hunting in PA.:D
I wish our DEC in NYS had the stones to really shake things up a bit.Of course it is not entirely their fault. One buck limits, getting the firearms season away from the rut, shortening the firearms season considerably. It doesn't have to be antler restrictions or QDMA to have positive changes occur.I am a QDMA member and I think that if you polled membership you would find that of the possible changes I have mentioned, antler restrictions would be very low on the list.

All time they are 9th for P&Y and 13th for B&C...... Your "location" isn't that bad :D;)

Talk about the shaft... Look at WV... They are almost surrounded by "big buck" states!

2 buck bag limit for gun and other liberal bag limits with a lot of hunter to fill them will do that.

I'm surprised PA is that high already. That is a good sign. I'm kinda surprised not to see Montana in there. They are known as a big buck state.

I never thought the Kentucky would be ranked so high??? I thought Maryland would do much better than 9th.

15 years ago Minnesota was right up there at the top or close to it. Boy has there quality of bucks went down hill since. We can thank the Minnesota DNR for that one!!

I also read that article. IL is styrong right now, but they had harsh words for their deer management and predict a fall from the top without changes to bag limits and management practices.

John what? It's all about location, not how it is manage or seasons set;)
In 1972 Minn was number 2, we know the location did not change[8D]

What is really fun is to look 50,60, and 70's. Ill was not even thought about.

It's truly hard to get a state Like Ill where it is, way to easy to send one down IMO.

They did.... The entries per square mile is what killed Canadas chances...

If you look at the second graph you will see Sask listed.

Even thought PA has improved, I am still quite suprised to see it ranked that high. REAL suprised.

Well it looks like us Hoosiers are dead smack in the middle of things :DGerm, i think the Ky hunt for myself is going to be a go this season, its going to be shed hunting and scouting time soon down there for me.

Ky has great hunting....Some of those states have numbers like that simply because they have outrageous amounts of hunters there. they kill alot more of the existing bug bucks than say, kentucky ohio or indiana would.

I can honestly say my first year out huntingever i saw a Buck within bow range that Would top the minimum for B&C. By far bigger than any buck ive seen since. This will probably be true for a long time too.

Im with TFOX though, hate to not be contributing to those numbers.

The DECdid a survey of hunters in 2006.........theysay the results showed that NY'rs were happy with not only the numberof deer and bucks they were seeing but also the size and quality of bucks as well.

We areboned no matter what........if they are telling the truth change will never come and if they are lying change will never come...........2 possible ways to the same dead end [:'(]

Your right Atlas,
I think there are some area's of our state where the hunting is very good and some area's suck.We all relate most personally to how it is in our immediate area or area's where we have traditionally hunted.
I didn't participate in that survey. My sentiments wouldn't mirror the results you mentioned.
