Bowhunting until you are 75...thoughts

My wife thinks I am crazy but I always tell her my personal goal is to continue to bowhunt until I am 75 years old! It will give me a reason to stay in good shape throughout the years. Hopefully when I am 75 years old, there will be bows out there with a 20 lb draw that shoot 300fps!;) Any of you have age goals that are bowhunting specific?

Ihad a gentleman, Jerry from Corvallis MTorder some of our camo about 2 weeks ago. Spoke to him a few times over the phone, great guy. I was pleasantly suprised to hear he was 75 years youngand had taken up bow hunting not to long ago.I could only hope to still be bowhunting at that age, truely inspiring.

Greg, Exactly my thoughts!! I have hunted out of a ground blind more the last 2 years than ever before, but I still like my perchs. Actually in 06 I killed a nice Buck out of a Ladder stand. First deer I ever killed out of a ladder stand. In 07 I hunted strictly out of hang ons for Whitetails. How many more years will I be able to do that? Time will tell;)I know my Dad is 72 years old and helped me on a couple of roofs last year (he gets bored, he says:eek:) My Grand Dad is 90 but I don't see him up in a tree either, 10 years ago probably yes:D

I will and when I can't, I will take that really long walk in the woods and I will get lost in heaven.

I will bowhunt as long as I can pull a reasonable weight, then switch to a crossbow as IA permits with Doctor's certification. Either way, I will be out there as long as physically possible. When I am not, then I will die shortly;).

I have an uncle who roofed his own house last year, and he was 85 or 86 at the time....so I hope to take after him.

I will become 72 yrs. old this coming August and, like past seasons, plan on sitting in my BuckShot Big Shot tree stand 16" up a tree daily until "the shot" presents itself. This past Nov. 9th I shot my largest buck to date - a great 8pt. with a 21" outside spreadand fielddressed 192# so fellas holdfast to your plans for hunting inthe "older years".

I went an heard him speak in 2001 if I recall. He died few months later. Best archery speech I have been to.

So far, I have been blessed with good healthand can't imagine not bowhunting.

HoweverI am currently recuperiating from a wrist injury that prevents me from drawing a bow, and it has made me realize how much we take for granted relative to health and its correlation with bowhunting.

My goal is to either live to 100 or die trying.:D

I went to see my Grand Dad not long ago, who is now 90. We always joke around and have a good time. I said to him: "Boy you are getting Old" He replied yeah but it beats the Alternative;)

When I started bowhunting in 1993 I said I will bowhunt until I can't pull a bow back. Now, I'm 61 years and I still pull 65 lbs. like I did in 1993. So maybe I will be able to keep on keeping on. However, the reality is that at some point there will be a change in my ability. So, I'm going to maximize my opportunities to hunt as much as I can.

Dang Jim W, good work! I really believe if I set a goal that my health will be better as I age...have to stay in good shape to get out there a good long way in those woods!

I plan on Bow Hunting as long as I can hold up...then I'm getting a Doctors slip and getting me a Crossbow and go on for another 20 years! ;) Heck if I have to I'll just tag along with my Daughters and future grandkids and watch them hunt! :D

Any one see the Jim Shokey Hunting show the other day when Jim took his Dad hunting and he shoot at the Moose and missed,he either handed him his gun or reloaded his muzzeloader again and the second time he shot he dropped the Moose! When they went to check it out his Dad had shot a chunk out of one of the Antlers! [&:]His Dad had to be in his late 70's or 80's?
