buffalo setup
 

I am going on a buffalo hunt next week and have read articles where the author inserted one shaft inside of another to increase arrow weight and penetration. I have also read articles where they used a setup similar to mine-Q2XL at 65# with 2315 and 125 thunderheads. Given a broadside shot I believe this to be adequate. Does anyone have any personal experience?

I've read an article in some archery publication, on how some guys will put wooden dowel rods in their arrows to increase weight. This way it doesn't effect spine just the overall weight. They were doing this for a safari in Africa. So in thinking, this could be done for buffalo, but your current setup on a broadside shot should be more than sufficient to accomplish the task.

I'd set up some AFC 2540 poltruded carbons for buffalo. That and Zwickey 2 blade heads for a arrow weighing roughly 600 grains. Kinda hard to find the 2540 shafts now, but they out penetrate anything I've shot.

I'll be hunting a private herd here in Kansas. It seems they are over running the market so they are selling hunts as a way to reduce herd.

Now, only have taken small game with my bow-I may not be yo experienced, but I listen and read alot(next year-a deer will be added-knock on wood) and in africa, the bowhunters fill thier arrows up with salt, all the way-this must make speed suck but penetration is more important. Anything to get penetra. or KE. I have also heard of people putting vasoline over thier arrows to assist in penetra.
