Making room in the stables for the new horse
I know it's "just a bow".....but has anyone had trouble parting ways with one that's been a real workhorse......to make room for a new one?
I don't need her....but I sure hate to see her go!:D |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
No, I've had the same bow for 5 years now, same truck since 99, no hurry. A new bow would be nice though!

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Shipping my Victory off to Rloving1 last week was pretty difficult. I killed my 1st archery deer with it as well as 1st buck & 1st Javalina. Its a great bow and I'll miss it. I considered keeping it but sentiment would be the only reason to do so and that just doesn't cut it.

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Jeff, I know exactly what you mean. I recently traded in the bow that killed my buck this past fall, and it was a bit emotional actually. I really hated to see the ole girl go....BUT, that didn't take too terribly long to overcome....;)
Now I do, however, still have the bow I killed my first deer with. That one I will never part with, a ProLine Riptide. 41" ATA w/ recurve limbs. Sounds like a friggin shotgun goin off, but fast and hits like a hammer. |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I killed 10 deer with that bow in less than a year....including both bucks on my wall (1 soon to be).....and won a 3D shoot with it.
It's just a piece of metal....but it's a damned good piece of metal.;) Come Sunday....I may be bowless. |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I know the feeling! I still have the recurve but I haven't picked up the new Marquis yet. I feel so naked!
|
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Dang, Greg! That's why I like you....always positive.
I DO still have a bow! (longbow!):D |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I've always had trouble leaving a bow go. I honestly don't think I've ever had a bad bow. In the past when I shot for Hoyt's National Shooting staff like many of you here, turning over a new Hoyt every year was actually difficult. My bows have gone across the country and I often wonder where they went from there. Yeah, like said, pieces of metal but like many things, I put part of me in each setup. I know some of my bows went to Michigan, Wisconson, NJ, a couple stayed locally. There was never an issue of getting one to go, just letting her go.

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Sounds crazy, huh?
I know she's going to a good home, though.....lol. What the deer here don't know is......she'll still be lurking.;) |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
You guys wanna know what's tough.........the night I traded my bow in, a guy came in and bought it. I was literally stripping the stuff off of her, and it was sold. So, I set it up for the new owner, and handed it over. Very good guy, the guy that bought it. He'll take very, very good care of her and shoot her for probably 5 more years or better....but man........Set up my bow for somebody else and hand it over......ouch.
|
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I'm stripping mine down after my 3D shoot, Sunday.....and handing her over.
:D 30th target of the round....and she's no longer mine. I'll drive back to NC with an empty bow case and a little bag of accessories. |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Oh..you poor boy...I've owned 2 bows in my life. Currently only have 1, sold the old Hoyt to my neighbor. The bad part is once January rolls around I set it up for indoor. This makes me miss the finalmonth of our season. [&o]

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Wow Jeff. I thought you were going to keep her! I have a feeling though, once you get the 82nd, you wouldn't be shooting her as much. Not to mention you have Mitch's Guardian to tinker with :D
|
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
For some reason this is tough for me too. I already sold my other bow which has recorded 28 bow kills on it. I did not want to get rid of her and being left handed thought I would get to keep her, a buddy of mine stopped in knowing I bought a new bow and said here is the money I want that bow. So its his now! :(

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
GR8 I'll only have one compound, too.
Didn't you pass on 3 trad bows for $50 bucks a while back? |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Yeah..I pass on many good things [:o]. Sometimes I have issues.

Maybe we could get Dr. Phil to come talk to some of you guysabout your DEEP connection with your bows.
It's kinda freakin me out a little............. ![]() |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I've talked with several of my friends on Corporate Staff, and it seems we've had similiar feelings... Last year, it was the '06 Alley; that was simply a fantastic bow. This past year, it was my '07 Guardian... and why I just got another one.

Im sure she'll be in good hands Jeff;). Nothing to worry bout.:)

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I think thats half the reason I didn't try very hard to sell my Allegiance.
I love this bow. Its the first bow that I bought everything for it entirely on my own. I've spent a lot of time with it, though I haven't killed anything with it. I don't think I'll be letting it go this year. |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I got a new bow last month, but I don't know if I can part with my old bow (Proline Force II). I have had it for about twenty years. Don't even know if someone would want it, but she sure still shoots well.

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I bought 2 Shafer Silvertip recurves in the past 3 weeks so I'm letting 2 of my Black Widow recurves go(i'm gonna keep the Widow longbow). They're great shooting and handling bows but I know I won't be shooting them much anymore

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
I can feel for you guys passing on your bows. I am selling my current bow and thoughI do not have a deep attachment to it I would have liked to keep it and pass it along to my father so that he can join me bowhunting next year. I take comfort in knowing that the person I am selling it to is very excited to be able to get such a good deal at a price they can afford............and that the tax rebate check in June will be going towards a second bow that I can send to my father to shoot!!:)

RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
You don't want to keep it for a backup?
Me, I have a hard time getting rid of bows too (some) There are some that I buy (garage sales and such) just to re-sell but usually the bows I have hunted with I've kept. I just got rid of my very first compound bow I ever purchased.:) Right now I have three that I use: Mathews Switchback LD, Fred Bear Code and my Browning Rage One (for those of you who remeber I found that one in the garbage and rescued it) Then I have the Bow Tech/Diamond/Tech Hunter with a crack in the limb and Browning Oasis that also has a crack in a limb. Both just hanging in my work shop as I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them quite yet. Finally I have a Browning Blood Brother sitting in a case (great older dual cam) just waiting for someone to dust it off and shoot it...........That one might make it on "BigJ's Late Night Giveaway". This doesn't count the several long and recurve bows I have hanging around either. It's not like I'm attached to them, I just don't know what to do with some of em.:D |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
You don't want to keep it for a backup? For deer.....it'll be a toss-up, this year, between my longbow and the 82nd. So.....I have a backup! |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Unlike some of you guys who get a new bow every 3 weeks, its maybe more manageable for us guys that dont get new ones so often to keep them.;)
I have my current deer/elk bow, the bow before that is now my squirrel/woodchuck/coon/whateverelse bow,and the bow before that is now my carp bow. They all carry way to many memories to just get rid of them. |
RE: Making room in the stables for the new horse
Hey Rob , i'm sure when your ready i could give that 82nd of yours a good home .... back here in the UK ;) .
I will always keep my Merlin , as it was my first bow . |
