does anyone worry about
does anyone worry about pushing a big buck out of your hunting area from all the walking around involved in shed hunting? I know where some good deer's core areas are and i would like to find their sheds, but i also dont want to disturb them.....does anyone else go through this?

RE: does anyone worry about
I wouldn't worry about if you are doing it now and are done hunting. I'm sure unless you are hunting is some unknown pristine area, that the deer will be bumped many times from now till next season.
Try and get in when they'll be else where but I wouldn't panic if ya bump one! |
RE: does anyone worry about
What has bugged me the last few years is that my brother who is getting real big into trapping is tramping through the woods that we hunt all winter long checking his traps. It may not be an issue, I've always wondered if my brother was doing harm or not by being in there 7 days a week all winter. I guess I'll never really know as I don't see him quiting trapping in there in the future. Anyone else got an opinion on this? The shed hunting part of it I don't think bothers them to much being your not going in there all the time. If you were going into the core all the time I would think differently though.

RE: does anyone worry about
I've often wondered the same thing. I worry about turkey hunting doing the same thing.
If D&DH magazine is correct, though....it would take a LOT more than someone shed hunting to bump a buck from his home range/core area. |
RE: does anyone worry about
Unless you shed hunt every single day for hours, I would not worry about it.
They cut wood about once a month during the winter, all the way up to spring in the woods. It doesn't seem to bother the deer for more than a few hours. My dad says he used to bow hunt while they would be cutting wood, and he'd still see deer no more than 150-200 yards from where they were cutting wood. |
RE: does anyone worry about
On another thread Germ said that he stayed out of area's after February.Gary if I am wrong please correct me.That seems extreme to me but maybe thats why I only kill a good buck every couple of years instead of every year while archery hunting in my home state.
I read the Deer and Deer Hunting article also and have always believed that it takes a lot to bump a deer out of their home range but I don't believe it takes a lot to give an older buck nocturnal tendencies. |
RE: does anyone worry about
At the time I would be shed hunting it would not concern me at all. A buck in the area I live inis bumped on a regular basis.
Anyway they know you are just shed hunting and that doesn't concern them ![]() ![]() Dan |

I wasn't busting on him,I am pretty sure he stated that while responding to Fran's if you are a competetive archer you must suck as a hunter thread.(Kidding!,Just Kidding Fran!)
