I shot this buck about seven years ago,he was dogging a doe on three legs. His back leg had been broken and was healed over but the hooves did not touch the ground. His hooves had grown to a complete circle. I don't know how fast hooves grow but it was obvious that he was getting along just fine on three legs.

Makes you wonder when you hear guys "putting a buck down" simply because he came by with a bad limp.[:-]:D

I mean maybe the darn thing just twisted an ankle or stubbed a toe and we're shooting them as a mercy killing. LOL

I shot a "limper" this year. When I reached down to touch it....I was touching the bone.

No regrets.




I also know of a doe that's at least 4 who has 3 legs.

This is the femur from a buck that I saw on four consecutive seasons his horns never got any bigger than a miss formed six point and he limped terribly. I tried to shoot his buck many times but failed every year ,I don't know if his handicap made him more cautious or If I am just that inept.Or both.[:-]
Old age and a terrible winter killed him six years ago, I found him in his bed dead . I went back in the spring and found his leg bone. Here it is , any ideas what happened?

bawanajim, im not sure what is going on with that one, freaky for sure. A guy brought in a rack today at work from an Ill thathe had killed, the rack was only about 8" tall, had brows,it did not have points but both sides were formed like giant clubs about 8-9" in diam. the bases were the size of a 3.5- 4.5 y/obuck it was prob about a 10" IS, it was hard to tell because the dummy had hack sawed them off instead of a skull cap or euro [&:]no way i would have done that, to much character, i love oddities.
