when is it best to find heavily used trails for early season hunting?
do you think that the deer are on the same patterns in the spring as they are the late summer?

What I like to do is to watch the fields toward the end of the summer and see where the deer are coming out. Then I'll walk the field edge to find the trail and walk it back a few hundred yards to see where it splits off and where the splits go. This will give you an idea of the bedding areas so you can know how to play the wind. Then I'll figure out where I want to set up stand sites and what winds I can hunt them with.
This method really only works for me in my NJ spots though because PA doesn't start until late Sept./early Oct. and they are changing to fall patterns at that point.
Usually in the spring the crops aren't mature enough yet and the does are fawning so the deer don't make themselves very visible.
