Turkey hunting
Was reading the other post about turkey hunting and had a question. This will be my first year taking the bow out for turkey season. Do any of you lower the draw weight on your bow to turkey hunt? Mine is set on 65lbs for deer and didn't know if that was too much for turkey or was ok.
Thanks for the help:D |
RE: Turkey hunting
Inavertently (sp?), YES. I lower my draw weight to shoot targets and 3D.....and carry that setup into turkey season.

RE: Turkey hunting
Thanks... What would be a good poundage to be set on? I know many things factor in like arrow weight and b/h weight, but just trying to get some idea.

RE: Turkey hunting
There's really no need to lower your draw weight for turkey. Once you hit them they don't care if you're pulling 65 pounds or 45 pounds. This is just my opinion, but if you're worried about having the arrow pass through the turkey then you're splitting hairs. Also, there's no need to have the arrow stay in the turkey after the shot either. A turkey can, and will run with or without an arrow in them.

RE: Turkey hunting
I shoot what I shoot, my Bow is maxxed out at 61#. I feel there's no need to lower my poundage for anything! Good luck with the Birds!

RE: Turkey hunting
no need to lower the weight imo....u are not going to cause any more damage on the bird with higher weight then with lower weight..
