They vary in antler size quite a bit, but these are what I believe to be 2.5 yr olds for my area

which ones? all of them?i really have no idea, the first pic of the 9 i made a post about and everyone said 2.5... but maybe thats what a 2.5 looks like where they are from....?

So what about the buck i have in your 3.5 thread?

Fellas - how old do you think these deer are? (I added the date of the photos, so you have a baseline to reference with regard to bodyweight/size)

Don't be afraid to take some guesses. I have no idea as to their actual age, sono worries about being wrong...

#1. Late November

#2. Halloween

#3 Early-Mid november

#4. (shot on opening day of archery season)

Just as a baseline: Here's a DEFINITE 1.5 year old, taken in Mid/Late October in the same general area as all of these other deer

These are some typical 2.5 year olds here, mass and tines are starting to grow a little more than the 1.5 year olds but they still aren't up to what the 3.5's are.

1.5

2.5 (Very good one)

2.5, but hard to tell from the pic

2.5 or a 3.5 with smaller genetics

1.5

What is the point of this thread? I don't mean that as a criticism, but just curious what we are learning from this.

Here is a a picture of a good 2.5 lying next to a good 3.5 in my area:

I suppose we're learning what a 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 yr old deer looks like in differing areas of the country. I thin's it's pretty common knowledge a 1.5 in KS might not look like a 1.5 yr old in FL. But we see a lot of posts where we're asked to "age this deer". I just thought "location" played a big part (a lot of the time) on our ability to do this intelligently.

That's it.

I passed on this one several times this year but haven't gotten a picture of him in over 2 months. I think someone else didn't pass on him.

I shot this one when he came in right before dark and thought he was 3 1/2 at the time. Looking at his jawbone I think he was only 2 1/2 with GREAT potential.

Thankfully I got a picture of what appears to be his twin brother about a month ago.

As mentioned in the 1.5 year old thread, we had a really wet year with lots of browse available this year and I think that had something to do with the good racks on the younger bucks.

Got it. My main reason for asking is that we are seeing a lot of trail cam pics of live deer saying definitively that this is a x.x year old deer. In my experience until you have a deer on the ground and can look at histeeth, weight, and body size up close it us impossible to know for sure the age of a livedeer unless you have watched it from a 1.5 year old on.

So, I'massuming most of these are educated guesses at age (which is why I only posted dead deer, I know for sure on them).
