Aging deer (1.5yr olds)....."Locations"
Here's a "typical" 1.5 yr old buck where I hunt. I'll try ot find a "typical" 2.5 yr old (for another thread)....but I think it would be cool to see a "typical" 1.5 yr old where YOU hunt.
Game cam or harvest photos are great! |

Typical 1.5 yr olds where I am at, run the gamut. The last time out, I had 3 come by. One was a 4” spike, the next a tall forky, and the last was a small racked buck(6-8 pt). All 1.5’s. But I would say that adding up the spike to scrub 6 pt range, would cover about 65%, and the small racked 6-8 pts make the rest.

This is a pretty typical 1.5 year old for my area. Most of the 1.5 y.o's have a 6-8 point rack and they all pretty much have the same shape/look. Decent main beams but short tines and little mass.

Here are the 1.5's that I got on camera this year.
![]() ![]() ![]() And a good example of how much they can grow in a couple years, especially body size. ![]() One comment I would make on the subject is that a good or bad year (wet year, drought, etc.) can have as much influence on the size of the deer's antlers as anything. Thiswas a great spring and summer here, if we continue with things as things are this year all our 1.5's may be spikes next year. |
