now that it's over
just curious, how many of you will be going after turkeys with a bow this spring? I have yet to achieve success in the spring with my bow but will be attempting once again in march. let's hear some of your stories and pictures.

RE: now that it's over
Nebraska Turkey archery opener comes in March 25th. I will headed out there the weekend after season opens to try for another Merriam Gobbler with my Bow, April will find me hunting out of a Double Bull in MO. with a bow for an Eastern Gobbler although the shotgun will be around just in case time runs short and Birds and/or Weather are not cooperative. May will find me back home to chase Easterns with a Bow. I always prefer the Bow but if I have to run and gun I enjoy packing my Remington;)
Good Luck to All!!:D Dan |
RE: now that it's over
I'll be going for them this spring. Hopefully I'll get a Tag for Wisconsin and for my place in Michigan! I kinda want to kill one with the shotgun, I've never killed one with a gun, only with my Bow! I always take both and decide when I get out of the truck which one I'll use!

I won't be. But I'll be calling for my son who will be carrying his longbow. This will be his first season out.

I'll be going after turkeys, I just don't know whether it will be with the bow. I would imagine I'll take the bow a time or 2.

RE: now that it's over
yeah I have a tom every year with my 10 gauge 3 1/2 inch and this year I think I might take my bow...more excitement...pretty tough with the bow though...Have to be sitting a tent with the bow...I like to chase them around with the gun and put on a ton of miles trying to get in front of them..

Over?.....Over?.....It is never over. Let's see. We have the indoor league, then turkey season, then summer 3-Ds, then.........

RE: now that it's over
I hunted turkeys for the first time last year......with a bow. I'm already looking forward to the Spring opener. 25 hunts, last spring, produced my first.

Yup, we're looking forward to it. NY has an early season weekend just for youngsters.
We just ordered a new blind using the return money on some extremely expensive long underwear that my wife bought me for Christmas (for some reason). He'll be in the blind, and I'll step back a few yards and call. On a side note, we'll be routing for the Pack this weekend. I hope it snows again! |
RE: now that it's over
I'll be after them with a bow after I get one with my BP shotgun.

RE: now that it's over
Where I hunt in RI its usually run and gun, so shotgun is normally the order of the day. In CT, I have a fairly good chance of setting up and getting one in close to the blind with a bow, but it kills me to shell out the $100 for an archery permit that includes deer tags then get the turkey tags on top of that, PLUS the firearms permit if I decide to go that route or hunt in one of the spots I have in CT that is also usually a run and gun type of situation. Since I expect I'll probably shell out the $$ for the fall deer season anyway, if I should happen to find a spare C-Note hanging around I just might give it a shot :D

RE: now that it's over
I will be gettinga new blind before season, as well. Have to replace the one that "disappeared" last year. I guess it is not safe to leave a blind up even on your own property. I was sure at first that it blew away (even though it had weathered several worse storms), but after seeing all the footprints in the snow lately (on posted land), I am not so sure.

RE: now that it's over
I have taken turkeys the past several years with my shotgun. Think I will try my bow this year.....at least on opening day.
May revert back to the scattergun. |
