two more land questions
OK as for trespassing
i do not tolerant trespassing on the land i hunt and do not own so i will not on my own land. When i buy my land how should i deal with both trespassers and thefts I am a person who will come up and let you know what i think. But i am not sure if i am hunting or walking my land and find someone trespassing or stealing something i should Should i confront them you stay back all the law and let them handle it. Do not get me wrong i catch someone doing either i will call the law. but i do not wont to get shot or have to shoot someone over trespassing or a stand. So what do you do. also which is the best way to keep people from coming back is the best thing to do is to call the law and get them thrown in jail. Or say hey i will let it slide this once leave do not come back Second this is not meant to debate baiting or weather it helps or hurts hunting. Baiting is illegal here and i will not bait during hunting I plan on planting a few food plots but with my limited budget i will not be able have alot of land for them maybe 3 to 5 acres. And if i have 15 to 20 acres how much of it should be woods and plots When i was in KY i put out 100 pounds a week of corn all year not just hunting season. Would it benefit the deer if i hang a few feeders around the land from a Jan. after huntingseasonuntil sept which is a month before season starts. I do not mean this as baiting i do not wont to bring deer to any one spot to kill them . I wont to do this to help them grow and have a better food source. Which if they have more food and water on my land there more likely to be there. Also are there any tips to keeping them from getting stolen likebolting to a tree or something |
RE: two more land questions
If you want to set up a feeder and it is legal then do it. Leave it up all season if you want. It's your choice. Don't worry about what people think about baiting, it's legal for me to do and I do it. Hell I hunt over it about 50% of the time.
As for the whole trespassing thing, I don't know what to tell you. I guess you will know when the situation is at hand. |
RE: two more land questions
Here we realy haven't had a problem. jmo
But I do believe there is a right and wrong way to aproach tresspassers. First post your land well. Next if you find someone on your propertyaproach them and let them know they are on your propert and it is posted. I think some people aproach this the wrong way and a situation could end realy ugly. Plus some people may miss the signs. Now repeat offenders etc. They get a little stronger warning. Like calling the law. JMO |
RE: two more land questions
it is not legal to hunt over it it must be removed like 10 days before hunting which i would do

RE: two more land questions
Good idea. The more signs the less chance they will "miss" a sign.

RE: two more land questions
I've only caught one in person. I asked him politely to leave and he did. In his defense, I did not have names on my posted signs and he had a BS excuse saying that he thought it was an abutting landowners signs and property that he has permission to be on. I'm putting names on next year.
I carry a camera with me at all times. Next time once names are on the signs I'll be taking pictures of whoever I find, and will prosecute them to the fullest extent possible using pictures as evidence. I'm tired of putting in thousands of $$$ and hours of work, and hours of driving to find footprints in the snow walking through the sanctuary areas I've stayed out of all year long. The town is small enough that once a few names hit the newspaper with trespassing charges associated with it.......rumor will get around about how unreasonable I am and that everyone should just stay away. That's just the way I want it too. ;) |
RE: two more land questions
Matt that is probably what you have to do. Its tough when you can't be there alot, or live there. I bought my land 9yrs ago....first thing I did was get it surveyed and post it every 30yds with the yellow tyvek posted signs (yes name on it). I also hatchet marked the trees in between the posted signs with 3 notches, and painted them blaze orange. There is NO missing my property line, you can see it from a long way off. I repost and repaint EVERY year, right before the season so it is fresh. My property line looks like a neon line, no matter where you are.
Next thing I did was drive to and meet in person each of my neighbors....we don't have a ton of people around us (larger properties). I told them I had posted my lines very well, and would not allow trespassing -and would not trespass on their land. I told them I hunted alot, and asked if they did. They ALL did. I told them if they ever shot a deer and it came on my land, by all means go and get it. I told them I wanted to become friends with all my neighbors, and that I respected their property, and expected they respect mine. I also told them that I would prosecute if I caught trespassers, so to make sure they told their guests. Now, the first couple years...I saw signs of trespassers, but never caught one. I think it was guys that used to lease the property before I bought it...sneaking back in. After that, I never saw any sign, but did catch one guy....and he said he was trailing a doe. He was, he showed me the blood. I followed the blood with him (scant blood trail that left my property onto another neighbors), then ******ed him off my land and told him if I caught him again, I would prosecute. He said he wouldn't be back, and that he was a guest of one of my neighbors. Since then, I have had no problems, though in the back of my mind....I am always looking. Hopefully it will continue. Good luck. |
RE: two more land questions
Down here in Middle tn we respect our neighbors farms and allow them access to it if needed my neighbors dont hunt and they have given my family permission to hunt if we desire but they also know that non family members of ours will not cross that line and we expect that there non family members the same. I caught one guy hunting on our line in a 2 man ladder standhe drag up the week of junvile hunt I told him where his son couldn't hear I be back the next day and if that stands wasn't gone he never see it again. I never seen those guys again yet that was 3 years ago.send there but to jail. Thatone and half miledrag of 250 lbs or more must've been tuff.[:@]
