I probably would shoot him. Reason's being not because he's a 4 1/2 year old but because he's got a funky looking rack! He would go on the wall in a heart beat! If I wasn't going to mount him I wouldn't of shot him then. I would have then waited for next year and hoped to see him again with his rack intact on both sides. Either way its a win win situation for me.

Good question!!That choice is entirely a personal decision. Why should that buck be any less a challenge or "trophy" based on a broken rack?? He is still a mature and very elusive prize at 4.5 years. That being said, I would pass and hope to see him again next year....unless I already found his broken side!;)

I only shoot bucks that I would mount.

I don't want a half racked buck on my wall.

Hopefully i would get a crack at him the next year.

I can say, without a doubt, I would not shoot. I was in that situation last week and didn't even get ready, just let him walk.

If its clearly broken I would pass and hope it grows back next year...If it looks as if it will never grow back I would shoot em and use the cape for a rack that my dad wishes he would have mounted...

This comes down to what do you consider a trophy:
-do you measure a trophy only by the size of the rack?
- do you measure a trophy by its age?

I am more the latter than the prior. Do you have any idea how rare a 4.5+ year old buck is around here? I would definitely shoot and probably mount.
