Now before you go moving this thread, The Bow hunting forum is like my home and i figured more people would be able to enjoy these pics.

So my brother and i were walking threw the woods cutting fire wood and and scouting out for deer. We saw this dead oak and figured it would be a good one to take down. When the tree finally fell, we noticed the top was kinda of dug out. I look in it and this is what i saw starring back at me.. i about crapped my pants! So i grabbed my camera out of the atv and took a few photos. I think its a screech owl but i do not know much about owls. Size comparison would be a little smaller than a softball.

The second pic is when it was right in my camera lense. When i saw it through the view finder of the camera i thought i had zoomed in too much... when i looked up the owl was about 3 inches away from me. I jumped back, slipped on the snow and fell right on my butt haha.

great pics, thats a beautiful bird,i wonder what he was thinkin when he heard the chainsaw start up and felt the vibes on the tree. I'm surprised it didnt fly out. either way, pretty cool, thanks for sharing.

Those are cool pics...but poor little owl now has no home. I know you didn't know most likely. Whenever I cut, I always try to NOT cut den trees...they are important to the wildlife. When we timbered our property, our forester went to great lengths to check if the trees were hollow or not. Any he thought may be, we left for dens.

He is a cool looking little dude. It is a screech owl from what I have seen. He must have had a wild ride.:D

My aunt used to have one that roosted on the poarch of her house when she lived on the farm years ago. They can make some weird noises for sure.

We had to cut it down, It was diseased and we didnt want it affecting the other big oaks we had around. When we found out that it was the little lguys nest, we cut as close to the top as possible and kjust propped it up. Im not to worried, i did some researched and it said they usually breed for life with a partner and this guy looked like a male because of the smaller body type and he was alone so me may have lost his mate.

He must be a bit stunned. That would be a wild ride for a little bird.

Last night when we were bowfishing, the boat bumped a tree and an 8' long branch crashed down right onto my head and shoulder. If you'd have taken a picture of me right after it happened, I would have had a wide-eyed and dopey look on my face kind of like the owl. (usually, I'm squinty-eyed and dopey looking)
Anyhow, I can only imagine how confusing it must be to be in a tree while it comes down.
