how cold is to cold

RE: how cold is to cold
The weather never seemed to bother me in the past, now I've got older and softer. When it gets below 20 now, I start thinking twice about going out. A few years ago I spent a week in camp and the temp top out at 12 and it didn't bother me at all (and we were sleeping in tents with a night time temp of 2), but that was then.

Lowest I can remember hunting in was -6 not including the windchill, but I would definitely hunt in temps lower than that if I had the opportunity to, it just doesn't get that cold around here during hunting season. Now that I'm going to school up in NH though, I may have the opportunity to hunt in temps lower than that.

RE: how cold is to cold
I have hunted Alabama when the temps were in the high 20's with lots of humidity and have done saskatchewan -15f with hardly any humidity( but as we know it's fairly dry up in that part of canada). IMO I was more miserable in alabama than canada but i was prepared for canada at that temp but wasn't prepared (dressed) for the alabama temps. Air temp is just one variable, moisture and winds also play a role too. So when does it get too cold for me to hunt? If I am on a guided hunt it has not gotten too cold to go out. If its a DIY than it has has happened several times and it was a combination of wind ,temp and moisture that did it for me.

I suppose for me it all depends on the wind, but I do know that yesterday when I looked at ceiling clock (with the thermometer) it said 4:45 and 7 degrees, turned off the alarm clock and went back to sleep, that was to cold. But if it was rut, well that is a different story
