Your equipment era?

What equipment era was your first hunting bow?

recurve/longbow

compound(but shot fingers & aluminums)

Compound (shooting a release and/or carbons)

Edit:
Made it a poll. 1st time I've ever made a poll in 6+ years on this board

Also should add. Mine was a recurve for my 1st 2 seasons.

Bear Whitetail compound from 1975 until about 1995...

Mountaineer compound from about 1995 until present...Still shoot fingers, still shoot aluminum arrows...

She was a doosy, dont even remember a brand. American Archery or something like that. No peep, 5 pins (5,10,15,20,25 yds), finger shooter and yes alluminum arrows. Boy when I got that Bear Whitetail I was Someone.

I had a recurve...I never did catch on bowhunting and went the muzzleloader and centerfire rifle route. Now I'm trying it again but with some more technology on my side :DI think I'll put it to the test in about 9 months :)

My first bow was a Bear Whitetail Hunter when I was 12. The bow was taller than I was, and I shot Easton Gamegetter 2018's off of it. I was only pulling maybe 40 pounds, so they were lollypops down range. I shot fingers, but had the No Glove on my string. Remember those? the rubber deals that slid over your string to protect your fingers...? Yeah, swell.

Mobow -those NoGlove thingies: I just put a set on my new recurve b/c I used them back in the day on my old recurve and Whitetail bow. Believe it or not - they still sell them at Cabelas.

I started with a fiberglass recurve at 12 years old and shouldn't have been hunting but I was trying my hardest. I'm glad I never hit a deer. At 15 I got a Bear Black Bear II that I shot fingers off a plastic glued on rest and no sights for many years. I finally put sights on it around the age of 18/19 and killed ONE doe with it in my early 20's but missed many. In my early 20's I got a Jennings Carbon XTreme XLR and my first release. Now that I'm 41 I have almost 30 seasons under my belt and countless bows. Times have changed and so has equipment. Will I ever return like Matt / PA has gotten bitten, I doubt it but it's not out of the question.

Went from a Mid 70 compound shooting fingers to a compound with all the gadgets to recurves and longbows. Now I make my own all wood bows (selfbows)

I started shooting a recurve in "68" I went back a couple of years before I switched to Bowtech, I think it was 2000. I shot and hunted with a custom made recurve and it was fun, but I doubt I will ever go through that phase again;)

First bow was a Jennings Black Bear ( I think??) in 1987. Bought a whitetail 2 in 1991, then a Golden Eagle in 1997. Shot fingers with the first 2, had an overdraw on the Golden Eagle.:DSince then I've had several bows and have been shooting the Mathews since 2003. Its old and outdated by todays standards LOL.

My 1st hunting bow was a Martin Lynx at age 12, my first bow period was a recurve. Dad had his hands full with me and my brother, we were shooting our little recurves at 3 years old. When I shot compound I shot fingers, never would I shoot a release. I used aluminum arrows then and still do now with my recurve.

My first real bow was a Browning Explorer recurve, but I didn't hunt with it because I didn't feel good enough. The next year after it broke, I bought a new PSE Proficientcy(4 wheeler with brackets) for something like $120 and killed my first deer on October 17, 1977. Could only get one deer permit at the time. I was 23 yrs. old.

I remember the days of only one Deer permit well:DI also remember never seeing another Bowhunter in the woods all season;)

First bow I ever had was a Jennings Forked Lightning, shot fingerswith Aluminum arrows. I hate to admit this, but my target was a paper plate and two hay bails.[&:]I look back at those days now andam really glad I never had a shot at anything. In 1996 I bought a Jennings Machined Extreme XLR (41" axle to axle),used a release, but still shot aluminum arrows. Killed my first deer with this bow, and actually still have it today.

Today I shoot a Bowtech Allegiance and carbon arrows, I'mjust amazed how far technology has come in a short time frame.

Mobow, bowfishers use the no glovs all the time. :)

I started with a 40# Browning nomad recurve when I was about 11. I was the bane of rabbits, squirrels and woodchuckswaaaaaaaaaaaay back then.
Then I got a Bear Whitetail II. 50lb draw weight and none of my friends could draw it back. Heh heh. (I'm quite sure those early bows ruined my shoulders)The Bearshot a lot farther than my recurve (as roof of the neighbor's housetwo blocks away could testify. [:o]).

Anyhoo, I actually hated that compound and it killed my archery pursuits until I went to college and got a spiffy new JVA Astro Stinger. (laff, laff)
I loved that bow and it and I got along well. I killed just about every little critter legal to kill with it and a few deer too. Won a tournament with it even.

Now I'm shooting a bowtech equalizer for big critters, an old oneida T-III for bowfishing and a couple of recurves for small game andgoofing off. I like the variety from high to low tech.

Rumor has it that I'm getting a new bowfishing bow for my birthday. wooo wooo! ;)

I grew up with a bow in my hand and never had enough sense to quit. As of right now, it's 52 years, 9 months since I shot my first arrow at age 3. Compounds weren't invented until 39 years ago. So guess what I started with. ;)

Started flicking slivers somewhere around 1959-60, a longbow, had to hold it at an angle or the sight window was above my head with the bottom limb tip touching the ground. Got my first Recurve in 63, I think!

I ain't as good as I once was, But Im as good once, as I ever was!

I just had to reply to this one...:D

Man... I tinkered with recurves and compounds around the same time. (Age 12.) But my very first bow (which my father bought for me used from a friend of his at work) was a Bear Whitetail Hunter. (The original that was something like 40" ATA with tiny wheels and the crazy criss-crossing cable system which went around wheels attached to plates at either end of the riser.)I was 13 years of age. It was a 50 pounder which worked out okay... Draw length was a little long, but I managed.

Pultruded carbons were just beginning to hit the market then and, to be honest, none of the stores around me even carried them. So, naturally, I was shooting aluminum arrows. (Feather fletch... I think it was even 4 feathers instead of 3 on several of my arrows.)The bow had no sights and a flipper rest; I shot instinctively. I didn't use anything but bare fingers for the longest time, but thenmy fatherand I were visiting another friend of his and he wentinto his shed and startedpulling out all kinds ofold gear when heheard I was into archery. He gave memy first3-finger glove. Man, I thought I was happenin'.

I never killed a deer with that bow (and in retrospect I'm probably glad I never got a shot with it) but I was out there "killing" targets and "sneaking" through the woods in my mil-surp camo with trusty bow in hand. If I close my eyes I can almost see myself... Good memories!
