Default Admin Update??

I wonder if Justin/Rob will give us an update on the yesterdays hack attack on the site.

I mean it kind of affected all of us.A word or two on what was done, what steps are being put into place to keep a re-occurance from happening, etc.

Would seem to bebe a common courtesy to members.

JZ could certainly expound more than myself as he is behind the scenes with all the master controls. When I had a second at work, I logged on to the PM's and emails of the "issue". JZ, Christine and other mods, Greg and more were already cleaning up the mess. I found a couple usernames that were not banned or deleted and took care of them. Once we deleted the user, you all could not see the posts anymore but we could which still made the forums all poluted. We then started deleting the threads to clean up the boards for us too.

The users have been banned, their IPs banned etc. We/I certainly appreciate everyones assistance on the issue. Imagine if we didn't have the mods that care enough to assist in such affects. The boards could be an absolute nightmare. If he happens in the future, again, we/I appreciate simply ignoring the attackers, they will be dealt with. Notify any and all mods/admins that may be online and let them handle it. This last one was "lucky" as usually there is someone on.

Again, JZ can elaborate if he feels it necessary.

I saw they hit the site again early this morning also, not as bad though. Admins deleted the posts ASAP though.

There really is no update to give, nor any grand master plan to hunt down the spamming vigilantes and lock them away in a prison without a trial.

A bunch of people with nothing better to do registered legitimate accounts and decide to post a large amount of obscene and vulgar things on HNI early yesterday morning. As soon as we learned about it we shut the board down, removed all the posts, banned all the accounts, and turned the board back on. There is no realistic way to stop people from registering an account and posting this type of stuff, which is why we have the team of Mods and Admins in place that we do. We can't be here 24/7 but we try our best to make sure this doesn't happen, and if it does we take care of it as best we can.

That's really about all I can tell you at this point.

I don't want to post much about it because I don't want to encourge these morons by revealing any of our strengths or weaknesses. Very early this morning another attack was attempted. It was hammered down in short order.

One thing I do need from you guys/gals is to email/pm me when this doody is going down. Sometimes I'm actually pretending to have a real life and not babysitting the board. I do check emails fairly regularly tho'. (I have tokeep checking email so I don't missthose greatoffers for cheap miracle meds that promise to change my life.)

heh heh... I said 'doody'.
