Ontario info
Looking to archery hunt Ontario and will be driving from NH.
Was hoping to get good info. on the southern part (WMU 65-68), as it's the closest to drive too from my state. Anyone have any great experiences that you may share? Or any other Ontario spots that may be better, I had one suggestion to go into WMU 8 Dryden area How about any helpful websites, public areas to hunt, etc. Also can non-residents get a doe tag? Thanks in advance for all info! |

Start here. Links on the left give you regulations etc. Page 19 shows licenses and fees and requirements, like a valid hunter safety certificate. It says bucks only for non-residents.

It's funny I notice your from NY and if I can't get to Ontario to hunt I was thinking of trying North eastern NY. Any counties better than others? I have talked to a fellow hunter who has a place on the Penn. state line and says it's pretty good down in that part. Do you have any words of wisdom you could "shed" light onto? Thank you sir! |

Well I don't know NE NY so can't give you any words of wisdom. There are some big deer in the Adirondacks but they're not plentiful. There's a lot of wild and woolly ground to cover. Tons of state land to hunt.

Davidmil is right, Northeast NY is big woods country........like 5-10 deer per square mile. It's tough to kill one with a gun up there, much less a bow. If you want to come to NY, my suggestion is central NY. Anywhere from Madison County, Otsego County, and Tioga County is fantastic. I hunt Otsego County quite a bit, as well as Bradford County, PA and I honestly believe this southern tier area of NY and northern tier area of PA is the best deer hunting in the northeast part of the country.
What part of S. NH are you from? I have lived in both Dover and Keene. |

I was fishing Lake Ontario over the summer in Ostego county area and do recall seeing a lot of deer. Good info. thanks. I have also talk to an aquaintance @ the yearly x-mas party who has a camp on the PA border and he has said the same thing about the population of deer. Any state lands in particular you could lead me too? Or swap a long weekend with each other? Don't worry it's only huntin' thing - ha, ha! |
