RE: Angry with Butcher!
some one did that to me they would be on the table
when i started hunting i called around found a butcher 10 miles away.
I was talking to the guy and he said he had a doe that did not getpicked up and i could have it if i paid the butcher cost
well after i had got it and cooked soem i noticed the dates on the pachage were like two week to even a month a part
i asked a friend he said the butcher was known for keeping meat and sellingit and even keepign deer donated to hunters for the hungry
and over four years i have not found one i turst to give it to
so when i get one i plan to do it myself

got an elk 318lbs.not enough time for me to cut it up,so i take it to the butcher LARRYS on sh52 by mustang ok.got the meat back today what a joke.
my backstrap steaks cut 3/4" 4 steaks to a package i got 4 packages 13 steaks in all. round steaks 14 packages 1/2"cut not much meat there, two three pound roasts,1 tenderloin small one,10lbs summer sausage,4 lbs slim jims, and 52 lbs hamburger.
am i not adding up something right or is this light.no neck steak they said we wouldnt want it it was ugly.
when doing my deer i get more steaks from a 90 lb doe, just one backstrap was longer than packages i got back.
when explaining this to the butcher he just said i got all my meat and he done over 140 deer so he must be doing something right.well firestone sold a bunch of bad tires dont mean they did it right they got surd and killed people.
never again will my deer go to a butcher could a butcher post if i'm looking at this wrong.just looks wrong with all burger and not many steaks

RE: Angry with Butcher!
Just think how much tenderloin this guy kept for himself. You got 3/4 inch steaks, 13 of them which comes out to about a foot and 3/4 inch. That's not even half an elk tenderloin. He kept one and 3/4 of one for himself. That's just the good stuff. I would have called the cops I think before I left.

I got scammed when I ordered some magazines a while back. I reported them to the better business bureau, the Oklahoma Attorney Generals Office, and the Federal Trade Commission. All of a sudden I got my money refunded!!
Either the butcher would come up with the rest of my elk or I would spend a huge amout of time dragging him through the mud. Heck maybe even next deer season standing across from his business with some signs, kinda like a mini protest. he would get so tired of me he would have to make it right. Maybe it would be taking it to far, but then I hate when people steal from honest hardworking folks. The elk in question is from the wichita mountains and it was a once in a lifetime hunt, I cant believe that some butcher would take that away from someone. Hey Robert if you want to protest next year Ill make up some signs and Im sure I can get all of my hunting buddies to join in.
Good luck with the processor, I hope he makes it right. I emailed yancy to see how much meat he got back from his bull.

i would go tell him all of this but be kind of nice do not get yourself in trouble
this is like if you took your computer in to get repaired and they keep half the parts
i would go to the local courthouse spend 35 buck file a suit in small claims for this
all you have to do is say i took my elk to get butchered and did not get it all back and you feel that you paid to get a service that not only was not properly done but part on your animal was stolen it is that stolen he keep something that was not his
i would ask for the butcher cost and the cost of your trip
tell the judge that you spent money on a once in a life time trip and this guy ruined it
cost out of him.
i have seen similar things happen with other products and services
at least everyone in your area will know what he does.
Plus the protest might help. but get a permit they can not keep you from protesting on public land
you may get your meat butcher cost and maybe y

RE: Angry with Butcher!
Yep, I've heard some real horror stories from guys having their meat processed by someone else. My dad taught me when I was young how to bone out a deer and I've done every single one of my deer and elk myself. Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing you completed the hunt from start to the very end!!!!! And I'm able to keep as much of the so called "no good scrap" for all of my jerky!!!!!! And man is it good!!!! Doing it yourself is the only way to go in my book!!!! When I lived in Frisco Colorado we used to have boning parties for our elk and you should have seen the piles of meat we had stacked up from a single elk....the guy took you....period!!!!! Enjoy the elk though, to me it tastes tons better than any cow I ever ate!!!!!! I love elk meat!!!!!! For 2 of my kids we had in Fairplay Colorado the ranchers wives would bring a dozen red roses to the hospital room and then serve us one of the finest elk loin dinners you ever tasted!!!! The wife wouldn't eat any elk so I ate both steaks, both times!!!!..... Boy, those were the days....Bet noone ever got one of them in the big city!!!!

RE: took 1 in the a$$
You didn't have time to take care of it yourself...that's where the problem lies. I would rather take a day off work and cut up the elk to make sure I get all my meat, if that's why you didn't have time. I took one of my deer to a butcherer once and I know that I got screwed. I didn't care as much because my dad was gone on vacation and I was too young/inexpierenced to do it by myself. Never again will we take our deer to get processed by someone else. I'd put someone try to let people know what they are in for if they do take their deer/elk there.
