I was at a recent Sportsman show and was in a seminar where many so called "Pro Staffers" were there talking about the industry... At the end of the show many people in the audiencewere basically kissing their asses about them taking the time to come and talk to everyone out of their busy schedules.. I couldn't help but to feel angry and disgusted [:@]about how the audience was doing this.. I felt those so called "pro Staffers" should have been kissing our asses and paying us for coming to talk to us since we are the ones as consumers making it possible for them to hunt 12mos. a year..... They think they are professionals because they go on 20 different guided hunts and kill some big animalson those hunts and now they are a pro...orsome type of deer god!

Well some of the best hunters I know, live in single wide trailers, and hunt a couple weeks out of the year because they need the food, and manage to kill mature whitetails wearing red plaid andwithout all theBULL SHOT!!**gimmicks like(scent l*ck clothes, special real tr*e camo, scent sprays, feeders, decoys, food plots to grow deer like a cropand any other crap that take away from being a truely skilled hunter).

The whole industry and outdoor network has ruinedhunting for the majority that make up most of the hunters and that is the working class people.. All the beautiful places to hunt in the country like Ohio, Montana,Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois where a working guy could have knocked on a door and got permission to hunt for maybe a fruit basket at the holidays or some good old fashion hard work on a weekend around that farmers land. Those are days that are gone! thanks to The so called"pro Staffers".. They have exploited the industry for profit so much thatnow when you knock on that door you find agrouchy farmer demanding thousands $$for a deer.... And we thank these so called "Pro's" for taking the time to talk to us.... Unbelievable....unbelievable... I sickens me of what they have done to the industry, they have taken the pride away from someone taking a not so big whitetail because everyone is living in fantasy TV land and think you need to kill a 170" deer to be a good hunter....
Then it cracks me up when you hear those big shots of the industry likeBill Jord*nor Jackie Bushwacker telling you to take a kid hunting or fishing as if they give a crap about your kids... The only thing they are thinking about is the future economic growth for their company andfamily to come, and so they can hunt on our dime and we keep buying into their gimmicks.... It is a true shame of what they have done... And don't give me the crap about all the money they generate for wildlife, because I am a working guy and I belong to DU, NWTF, NRA and a couple more and I donate more than I take from wildlife every year... It is the working people that make it happen, not Cobelas, B-ass Pro, Gunder Mtn. or any other big chain.. Bottom line it is the working class people's money from the get go, and we get the crappy end of the stick of inflated prices and no place to hunt unless you got the big $$ bucks..Literally

Well enough wining from me, I just wish everyone would see my point of veiw on this and see the big picture of how we are helping them "Live the Dream" as a so called "Po Staff", "Professional Hunter" or whatever else they call themselves and we are left to keep supplying them with the $$$$$ to do it... I stopped Duck hunting because it became a rich man's sport. I'm lucky I hunt mostly public land and will until the Forest Service and the BLM sell us out to the environmentalist. My biggest grip is the false picture that the non hunting public gets when they watch a high fence ranch hunt. IMHO there is nothing we can do tostop the commercialization of our sport. We do need to stick together on our 2nd amendment rights.

Hmmm..haven't seen any likethat around here.

But seriously, you must have had some good hunting to be able to get both p&y and b&c bucks over the years. Even though it's frustrating for you to see opportunities diminishing for all the reasons you've listed, I imagine you're glad to have had excellent opportunities.

I agree 100%. About the best hunters being people who don't get all fancied up, my uncle is that way,Ive seen plenty of pictures where my uncle has killed HUGE deer wearing plaid or just Carhartts. He knows his herd, their habits, and knows how to play them. Alot of people around where Im from know him for his hunting "skills".

Part of where I hunt is being commercialized. Used to be able to hunt 170 acres but the farmer sold 75 of it to an OUTFITTER who charges 3,500 a hunt and 1,500 for a SHED HUNT. REDICULOUS

Folks, NYbigbucks is one of my best friends. He has always been very loyal to the sport of Deer Hunting. he has been very fornuate to have worked hard saved his money and chose to spend his money to go out and about to states where Big Bucks are produced and has put in his time to be able to kill big bucks. He has a knack for studying them and for this he is rewarded. I do agree that the folks that are so called Pro hunters should be thanking us for coming to meet them and taking out our time to meet with them and listen to the bs , because with out the folks watching and listening they wouldnt be crap. As some of you have said this has become more of any industry than a sport. The fun is gone for me. I use to travel with NYBigBuck on deer hunts, he and I both went to Alberta and yes both of us killed huge bucks. but the fun in it has gone for me because of the cost. I have two small kids an just cant do it anymore. Good luck to those of you that can and cant no matter where your hunting.

Well enough wining from me,
After re reading, I made a few changes to my post. Not sure what Pro Staffers have to do with the hunting industry in general, they are the TOs or Micheal Jordans of the indusrtry. You either love em or hate em. Doesnt mean you have to hate hunting becasue some Pro Staffer rubbed you the wrong way.

Im not sure being a Pro Staffer is all your thinking its cracked up to be in most cases.

Hunting has become like any other business its all about supply and demand. If we pay, they will always raise the price.

Just like gas prices are now. No one sticks together in this country. we fight agmonst eachother while other counties tear at us little by little.

Want to see the prices fall? STOP BUYING IT!!!! Its not rocket surgery. Its a MARKET!!!

Whoa, I don't get what you're so mad at? Someone found a way to live thier dream and you haven't. I mean that isn't just the hunting industry, it's life in general.
Tiger Woods just had "his" tournament The Target World Challenge. The last place invitee made $170,000 for playing golf for 3 days(He withdrew from the final round). Is that shame on us "consumers" too? There will always be those that get too big for thier britches, be it in hunting, golf, sports, business..whatever. That shouldn't reflect on the business it should reflect on the individual.

I'm not big on hunting DVD's so I don't buy them. Simple. I'd rather talk to you guys who are out there battling the same things I face. Finding land, scouting, passing immature bucks, balancing life with hunting time..etc. I can benefit from your expiriences.

This is not to say that I denounce, Outfitted Hunts..I would love to go on many and it bothers me that so many are quick to bash those that can, and do, go on them.

Well I am not going to bash the hunting industry because I myself do buy alot of things that are hunting related. The only thing that I question is that you cannot sell the deer meat that you harvest here in Iowa. Not that there isn't a huge demand from our Vietnamese population but yet outfitters can sell hunts to take these same deer. Maybe it isn't the same thing but how is it so much different than selling meat than selling hunts for the same deer we cannot sell kinda seems like the same thing to me. As for me I wouldn't sell any of the deer that I take because I enjoy it way to much for that. Just what I am thinking.

I agree with you that the "pro staffers" should be thankful for us. Just like any sports athlete, they are no different. Just like GR8atta2D stated, try buying a good quality driver these days. Thanks to Tiger, that is not possible for under $6-700. Try playing a round of golf for under $75... It is crazy, but it is life. As much as you dislike it you cannot tell me that if ESP* called you and wanted to promote you and your hunts & pay you big $ that you would turn them down!

I don't agree. You can buy a driver for $50 that will allow you to play a pretty darn good round of golf (if you are any good). You can buy a bow for under $300 that will kill deer every year (if you are any good). You don't need the fancy, expensive stuff. You THINK you need it because the TV and magazines tell you it is necessary. Take ScentLok, for example (yeah, go ahead and blast me), I know guys that kill deer every year in their Carhartts (the same ones they fed the cows in earlier in the morning).

I can buy a refurbished Playstation II for around $100 and my kids would have a blast with it. I could also buy a $500 Playstation 3. Would my kids have five times as much fun? Probably not. My point is, there is a HUGE difference between need and want.

Amen Gundeck.

If you buy your gear when it's clearanced and take reasonable care of it you don't need to buy more every year. Once you have the basics the rest is just the latest geewhizbang gimmick that probably doesn't work anyway. Absolutely no product will make you a better hunter, only learning and experience will. It's easy to take cheap shots at people who had the gumption to go after what makes them happy when you don't happen to be one of them.

What you are seeing is the dark side to a prosperous nation. When people have expendable income, some will not use it as wisely as others and someone else will always be thinking of ways to get that money. (Not that I am condemning the Free Market system, or the Nation's wealth, there are downsides to every system of society and this one is the best despite problems.) We spend more on dogfood then some countries total budget. We love our recreation and are willing to spend money on it. On the upside it allows a lot of people to provide for their families, not just the "Stars" either; the factory worker, the delivery guy, the engineer, envelope stuffer, videographer, marketing agent, etc. For every star we envy/despise there's probably hundreds of "little people", average joes, that are making a living supporting him and selling his goods. Average joes with families that want clothes, food, a nice house and other nice things in life. So if in order to allow a lot of people to have a good life we need to put up with a few conceited "stars", I say the price is small. Is the glass half empty or full? Don't grouse about the negative, look for the positive.

Gee, just change some of the words around and you could be talking professional sports. I remember going to a Cubs game as a kid, bleachers hot dog a pop, took the L there. Didn't cost much at all, not true today, times change and we all pay for marketing. Buy stuff only on sale, treat it well, buy quality. You can still find hunting land by asking it's just hard to do.

In my younger years, I took many deer wearing a cheap snowmobile suit, boots from the outlet, and no tree stand or blind. I knew where the deer were moving and why. I put myself in likely spots to catch them moving. There are days I could have been wearing a neon sign and taken deer. It always was (and is) more about what you bring in your head than what you bring in your bag.

Mathews and Scent Lock are the ones that ruined hunting....:D

Nobody says that you have to buy Real Tree orScent Lock or any of these other products. Load up on plaid and Carhart and go out and hunt. It's not Bill Jordanor Michael Waddell's fault that the hunting industry is booming. Why don't you blame the farmer that now leases his land instead of letting you hunt there for free.

Try therapy it may help you get over these anger issues....;)
