selecting a Stabalizer?

How do you guys go about choosing a stabalizer?? Ive seen robs and his is like 16 inches or something.... and ive seen some at my pro shop wich are pushing an inch!!?? How does that work, how do you decide I have a Sims' Scoil right now but that fuse is looking durn tempting... I like the one rob has.

Ryan.

I like the fuse, too.;) But I think it's 10.5" (It's the same one Rob has on his Allegiance)....except in camo.

I'll be shooting a black one just like Jeff and Rob's next season. I shot a Elite Hunter Modular by limbsaver this past year and I liked it alot. I think it's close to the same length as the Axium.

That's when I still had the HHA too.

16" for a hunting bow is too long. It should be as compact as possible while still being functional.

A stab should tip your bow foward ever so slightly when holding in out, not drawn.

When drawn, it should aid in stabalizing, obviously. I haveHi-Tek 9''

General rule of thumb is 10" and less for a hunting bow.

I have a Fuse tip that I might actually attatch to teh tip of my Hi-Tek, as the threads are already there from the factory.

I have yet to find a situation where my long bow/ long stabilizer got in the way. I think the whole, "that would be hard to manuver in a treestand" is severely overrated. I shot a 36" ata bow this past year and about a 11" stab too, as you can see in the picture. I hunted out of a stand, and stilll hunted alot. It never became an issue.

And I think the long stabilizer that everyone has seen Rob use, isn't his hunting stabilizer. He hunts with one like Jeffs, and like the one I'm going with for next year.

LMAO, It's a 10" Fuse. :)

Before it, I used and still have a 12" Super Stix

IMO stabilizers on a hunting rig are WAY overrated. Especially on a nice dead shock, already quiet bow. Some louder bows benefit from a decent shock absorbing stabilizer. For me I just have an S coil, cheap & small.

x2

I just use a small rubber dampener to help with noise. The bow feels fine and shoots well, I didn't see the need for any additional "stuff" hanging off of it.

you got that bow looking good Big J.

Is there still a law on max length of these stabilizers or not? Its been many years since I shot compound.

If you shoot tournaments there are limits on the length depending on the class you shoot in, but other then that I think its personal preference.

No law on length for hunting either?

I have not read anything like that in SC's regulations but I would not think there would be a law about that type of thing. I could be wrong though, its happened once or twice before:D.

Lmao! I was just curious, a buddy of mine asked me that tonight after we tracked and found his doe he got tonight. I told him i'd check with you guy's and see what you all knew or thought. Thanks anyway SC!

I shoot 3D with the exact same setup I hunt with (I did, last year). SO.....the stabilizer is as much for that as anything else. Plus....even at 10".....it has never been an issue in a tree. Not even close.

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

My set up looks very similar to Robs. Sureloc and Superstick. In the tree it has never been a problem. I do hunt out of a Doghouse TSC (68" base), that is where it is a bit tricky sometimes.

I usea 3 Inch Doinker

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

i had the doiker but didnt like it as much as my 7 dollar walmart stalbilizer
but i really want to get one that is at least 7 inches and heavier

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

I agree with rybo as far as hunting goes but as a long time 3D etc shooter I still prefer the feel and looks of one plus I love to lean my bow up against things like I have it leaning against the stair railings in the second picture. Rarely if ever will I lay my bow down. I like the looks of a longer stabilizer too. Example, BigJ's looks odd to me only because of my long history with lengthy stabilizers.[8D]

kmunny19 12-17-2007 01:27 PM

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

the longer and heavier the stabilizer, the steadier you will be able to hold the bow(to a point). I look at it from a form standpoint, as well as a shock reduction standpoint.

childers 12-17-2007 02:18 PM

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

the weight and length need to be considered with the bow weight also. like a heavier bow will need a heavier stabilizer to even it out as a lighter bow would not need as much weight to get the job done

davidmil 12-17-2007 02:40 PM

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

For hunting I think it's main purpose is to quiet the bow, deaden some handshock and MAINLY to balance the bow. Length doesn't matter really except for convenience in a hunting situation. Like my new Guardian. There really is no hand shock but the bow is NOT balanced by itself. Different sights and all that change what you might put on it. I really thought I should have a 7 oz one. 6 was too light and 8 too heavy... but, I went with one close to 8 because he was out of 7 oz at the time. LOL I also like to get one that will fit in my bow case on the bow so I don't have to take it off and on all the time. I went with this Wild Thing... purely for balance and shortness. You'll find Rob and a lot of folks that shoot a lot of tournaments and 3D will go with the longer for balance and added accuracy. A sliver here or there usually doesn't matter in the woods like it does on a 12 ring.LOL I couldn't stand to have a long one myself.

IMO stabilizers on a hunting rig are WAY overrated.
I have to disagree with that a lot. The balance of the bow effects accuracy and steadiness.

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

Stabilizers on your hunting bow...

There's a conundrum...

Totally unnecessary for sure. They do quiet it down a touch. They're more weight to lug around. Difference between getting a deer and eating the tag? Never.

Willa big onehelp you stabilize on the bonus ring on a 3d target? Sure.

I hunted for years without one, and shot hordes of deer. But I broke tradition when I stuck a cheapie S-Coilon my new bow, just because it was cheap and seemed to quiet it down a bit.

It looks cool too, which was probably the biggest motivational factor...which is comical, b/c I put the world's ugliest sight on my bow. I guess it doesn't make much sense to go with a stab b/c it looks cool, but then follow it up by installing a fuse sight that looks like 7 days of sin. LMAO.

My bow isn't this ugly anymore, b/c I've since removed this hideous sight and replaced it with something much more aethetically pleasing.

I guess I can see the point if you're one of the guys who shoots competitivelyduring archery season. But beyond that -a cheap rubber doinker or S-Coil (or no stabilizerat all)will do you like a dinner.

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

For a hunting bow, I don't like them to extend past the sight. Mainly, I use the Limbsaver S-coil.

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

If you really like the Fuse Stabilizers they also have a 6 inch and a 4 inch. I have the 6 inch on my Guardian and it's perfect. Well IMHO

RE: selecting a Stabalizer?

i would stick with the S-coil
i think its one of the best stabilzers on the market
and its a huge bargain
