According to Illinois law that would be baiting! You can not manipulate the feed other than what is considered normal farming practices.

Why bother? Leave the corn standing, they'll peel it themselves!

Bigtim, if you really want to draw some deer, plant Ladino clover. I'm tellin' ya' it'll be a magnet to the does and therefore the bucks!

Ask your local seed dealer, he'll know what it is and if it'll grow in your area. It's hard to get established but once it takes off it'll be good for 2-3 years before you'll need to replant. We used it once on some property we hunted, planted 10 acres of it on CRP ground. I couldn't believe the amount of deer we would see.

Plant some corn, plant some alfalfa and let them grow. Alfalfa will attract them all summer long. Leave the corn hanging as it is. They can get at it and the husk protects it from the weather. Right now the deer around here are digging through a foot of snow and crust in the alfalfa fields. It stays green even under the snow.

Um, if you plant corn they will bed in it !! Learned that one myself.

How is that baiting ? I see guys in videos that live in states that do not allowing baiting, and they are hunting over food plots.

If I buy land, I dont care where, Ill plant what I want.
Planting corn has nothing to do with baiting! It's the deliberate manipulation i.e; knocking it down, that is considered baiting. By all means if you want to plant what you want go ahead but if you get caught manipulating the crop in a way that is considered baiting you still could be fined. Having your own private ground does not protect you from being fined for game violations.

How else ya gonna catch em?

In NYS the official definition for baiting is anything that you have to physically pick up and move and place it there with the intent to harvest an animal off of. So by definition it seems like your idea would be baiting. In my opinion why test it or take a chace?? Find the natural food, if you have deer there then obviously they are eatting something. Other than that hit the travel corridors, creek crossing etc..

This isnt directed at you specifically or any one person but...i dont see why people have to try to bend the law or try to stretch every little bit of it. In my opinion, if you have to think about it or have second thoughts, then you probably shouldnt do it!
