A little ticked off after the season.......
On Friday I was archery hunting during Pa's rifle season. I noticed that a few doe where in heat (pee in the blood). Well I had a buck walk under my stand, giving me a 15 yard shot. I shot and smack pass through and can see the buck had stopped about 75 yards away. I see he starts to woble when BANG he gets shot by a rifle hunter. I make my way over to him to plea my case, but he said I put him down, its mine. So congrats to all that got one and good luck to those that are still out.

RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
You're hunting 75 yds from a property line?.....and someone else is there with a rifle and you didn't know it? And your buck was wobbling when it got shot? He didn't see the wound you inflicted? He wouldn't reason?
That's some serious bad stuff, there. I wouldn't archery hunt in those conditions. |
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
That sucks. I hope the guy feels real good knowing he shot somebody's elses "dead" buck.
|
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
I was hunt public ground, on a funnel, the hill curved sharply, he was down in the funnel, so I couldn't see him.
|
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
Very tuff to bowhunt this time of year, unless you have stricted access to the property. that sucks man

RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
Sorry to hear. That really stinks.[:'(]

RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
That really stinks. Some people have no ethics or decency. I am sure he was bragging it up to his buddies, as well.
|
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
Makes ya angry don't it[:@]
Sorry for your luck. |
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
I was wondering though, if I would have been able get that deer from him, would it have been ethical to enter him in the Archery contest?
|
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
That's not right. It's hard to chew back straps with gums. I'm just saying.
|
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
Some of these gun hunters are just pricks! Where do they get off shooting someones deer thats been shot with a bow?
|
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
Absolutely would be IMO Ron. Although the gun took him down he was a dead deer to begin with with a lung shot. I am not just saying that becuase you are on my team either.
Did he field dress it there and you seen where you hit it? I can't imagine that anyone could do that to another hunter. Makes me sick to my stomache. My question would be what would the Game wardens say about your deer having a gun hole in it. That is a pretty tricky situation. |
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
He had no idea it was shot, I assume.
But....for the sake of argument......let's say you just stuck him with another arrow, after your conversation with the other guy. Now....you have last shot on the deer. What some of you guys have to put up with and WILL put up with is beyond me.I just wouldn't hunt in those conditions. |
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
I now have to agree with you Jeff! I am thinking about giving up rifle hunting altogether. I was only doing it to hunt with my father anyway. He got disgusted after hunting this year and not seeing but only four deer in three days and quit.

Schultzy......don't take it the wrong way......I was simply making an observation. I hate some of you have to put up with this. That's all I was saying. I wouldn't hunt in those conditions.

RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
all too common in PA...
i also believe the law says finishing shot is the killer... sorry to hear about that...id be fuming...but, what can you do... i had an old timer squeezing the trigger on a doe i shot...blew the heart right outta her no joke..did her death run 30-40yds..falling, running into trees the whole way etc...then got up stood there and dropped back down...i go over and start guttin and grandpa comes over..says "i had her in my scope and was squeezing the trigger and she dropped! lucky i didnt shoot her" i just said "yep" i wouldnt have been fightin old granpa, but i would tried taking what was mine with logic and reason...blood trail was so thick it got my boots bloody i remember that...and she didnt leave my sight the whole time...blood pouring out of her...but grandpa must not have seen that through his scope.... |
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
I didn't take it the wrong way by no means! I totally understand what your saying.;)You can honestly tell me that if you didn't have your own land to hunt you wouldn't hunt at all on state land? As much as I hate hunting state land, I'd have to I guess. I love bow hunting to much!
|
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
That's totally different, Schultzy. Sure I'd hunt.....but not bowhunt during the gun season (If I had to put up with such). It would likely take all the fun out of it, for ME.
Who knows? |

Just shows what kind of people are out there, I know if I would have shot a deer and come to find out that it had already been shot I wouldnt feel right to claim it and would be more than happy to give it up. Makes you wonder what people are thinking somtimes. |

RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
Thats sucks! I used to bowhunt during gun season, to many hunters in the woods, so I joined them with the Shotgun in hand, killed a few, which was cool! Now, I take my Flintlock Muzzleloader out during gun season. Somewhat the same challenge as Bowhunting, they need to be in close and you only get 1 shot!!!!!! I look forward to the muzzleloader season because I really enjoy being in the woods with my Flintlock in hand! Good times!!!!!!!:):):):):)

RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
GMMAT,
I am not sure what the regs are up in PA but here in Nebraska you either buy an archery permit or you buy a rifle permit. There is no swapping and if you tag a deer with an archery permit and it has a gun hole thru it then you can see what I mean. It may be different up there though. |
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
I had a similar thing happen years ago. Sorry to hear its still going on. But I'm not realy supprized.
I shot a smallbuck years ago with a 12 ga in WV. It ran because I'm a bowhunter and I amed for vitals not shoulder (I know better now) anyway about a minute after I shot I hear 3 shots Not real fast but not slow in the direction he ran. I was bretty sure I had killed the deer. I walk 50 yards and there is two guys standing over my buck. I asked him if it was hit. He said "Uh ...?Uh I don't think so" Right! I ask if I can take a look. Now remember I was shooting a 12 ga and he ad a 30 cal of some sort. Anyway I move the deers leg and see a huge hole perfect heart shot. So the guy starts saying the deer was running blah blah....The only shot I saw that he said he took it down with was a shot to the head. Guess what perfect hole in perfect hole out. The deer was on the ground. Later the guy says he has killed a bunch with that gun and only recently sighted it in. .......... I didn't argue. It wasn't worth it. I just figured if he needed it that bad to say he killed it I was fine I knew I killed it. BTW I wathced him gut it. The heart came out in two peices. |
RE: A little ticked off after the season.......
In NY, you can use a bow or muzzleloader during the regular (shotgun, in my region) season, but if you take a deer you have to use the REGULAR tag (or DMP tag if you have one), not your bow or muzzleloader tag.
Just to play devil's advocate, I grew up hunting PA and I know how the hunting season is there (especially on public land), BUT most of these gun hunters take their gun and go out for one or two weekends A YEAR to hunt. They don't know the first thing about bow hunting. I am sure if you asked a lot of gun hunters, they would assume that if you shoot a deer with a bow, it drops just like it does for a gun. It would not surprise me if a deer ran down to a guy (especially if he didn't hear a shot) and he shot it again. That still doesn't excuse him from notrelenting after you reason with him (and show him the hole.) Just a different perspective on it. |
