Does your state allow???

tBaiting. We can't even mention that here in VA. Why do some states see it as ok and others not?? Is it mostly northern states that allow it??

NO! Thank God.

I think it is really more prevalent in the south.

In WI, the lower half of the state you can't bait because of CDW but the upper half you can but there is restrictions on how much you can put out.

You can only have 2 gallons out per 40 acres. You are allowed multiple baiting sites but it cannot total over 2 gallons for the 40 acres.

I only bait during late season when there is snow.

Mich Yes You can have a 1/2 of a 5gal bucket on the ground. Anymore and you will get a ticket.Have herd of people being busted from the air with truck loads on the ground. Im not a fan but it is good for first timers and kids.

In NJ you can. I hear that that's going to change soon though for fears of CWD. I've baited, and I feel that it's more of a hinderance than an advantage. It seemed to just sit during the day and get hammered at night. I stopped baiting altogether.

You can bait in VA it just has to be up 30 days before season opens and you can't hunt over any active sites such as mineral licks.

From VDGIF:

Chase with dogs or hunt with dogs or to attempt to chase or hunt
with dogs any wild animal from a baited site or to train dogs on
any wild animal from a baited site. Furthermore, it shall be
unlawful to place, distribute or maintain bait or salt for any wild
animal for the purpose of chasing with dogs, hunting with dogs or
the training of dogs. Bait shall mean any food, grain, or other
consumable substance that could serve as a lure or attractant;
however, crops grown for normal or accepted agriculture or
wildlife management purposes shall not be considered as bait.
A baited site will be considered to be baited for 30 days following
the complete removal of all such bait or salt.

placement of these materials results in the attraction of and/or
feeding of deer. No part of this regulation shall be construed to
restrict bona fide agronomic plantings (including wildlife food
plots) or distribution of food to livestock.
