Average deer in Texas??

Not on a ranch or outfitter's property, just the average guy's hunting property, what is the average buck size, antlers and body? What would be exceptional??

Honestly Texas is so large it really depends on the region. Deer can vary greatly from one region to the next. Where I hunt in east Tx. a 130" buck that weighs in at 150 lbs.is a great deer, in south Tx that same 150 lb buck would need to sport a 150-160 rack or better to be considered a great deer.

txjourneyman is right on when he said it varies greatly based on what part of the state you are in because Texas is so big. I heard a stupid little fact several weeks back saying that it is shorter to drive from Dallas to Chicago than it is to drive from the two furthest points in Texas. If that is true, then it would be like asking what size deer are there in Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc...

I know where I hunt, a 130 class buck is something to be really proud of. Some of the biggest bucks I have ever seen have come out of South Texas. Now, if you are talking about deer population, then Texas has one of the biggest, mainly due to the state's size.

Texas is I believe #1 for deer population and top 10 for producing B&C. My dad shot a 135 this year but we have seen a lot bigger. We live in Central Texas.

Here are some deer off my trail camera in the hill country, some are big, some are decent, but for the most part this is what we hunt-

But my East Texas lease is another story, anything over 120 is a crowd gatherer there- only because they don't make it past 3.5 yo.
